Job Summary

We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Environmental Specialist to join our team at GKN Aerospace, a growing aerospace and defense manufacturing company in Garden Grove, CA. The successful candidate will ensure environmental compliance for GKN Aerospace manufacturing in Garden Grove, implementing environmental policies and procedures, per CA compliance, to minimize the company's environmental impact. Key functions of the role will include daily oversight in chemical handling and hazardous waste management and disposal, as well as storm water, waste water, and recycling programs. The Environmental Specialist will also maintain daily compliance logs for AQMD.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage training for chemical handling and labeling, as well as hazardous waste management and disposal, storm water, waste water, and recycling programs.
  • Conduct training and education programs on environmental practices and compliance for 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift operations.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments and assist in ISO 14001 compliance requirements and audit.
  • Ensure compliance with AQMD permitting requirements.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Prepare and submit environmental reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Managing Chemical Safety Data Sheets.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate environmental considerations into processes and projects.
  • Stay updated on changes in environmental regulations and industry best practices.
  • Investigate environmental incidents and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain accurate records of environmental compliance activities and incidents.
  • Working directly with operations on production floor, performing regular inspections, to address any nonconformities and/or environmental concerns.
  • Participate in daily Operations Tier meetings.


Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field of study.
  • 3+ years of experience in an Environmental role for manufacturing.
  • 1+ year of direct experience in Federal, State, and/or Local environmental regulations.
  • Fluent in reading and writing, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to conduct effective training sessions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • U.S. Citizenship per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance requirements



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Strong time management abilities, deadline driven, well organized, and excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 or similar environmental management systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Completed 40-hour HazWoper certification training.
  • Certification in environmental management (e.g., CHMM, REM) is preferred.
  • Master degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety or related fields.
  • Aerospace or Defense industry experience
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices and initiatives.
  • Experience in conducting environmental impact assessments.
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste management principles and practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


Compensation Data

Compensation range: $80,869.00 - $101,087.00
