Position: Senior Manager, Cost Accounting
Industry: Biotech/Pharmaceutical

Overview:
A growing organization in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry is seeking a Senior Manager, Cost Accounting to join its Finance team. This role will manage all aspects of inventory costing and accounting. As the first dedicated hire for the function, you will be responsible for overseeing the full ERP and cost cycle for the manufacturing team, as well as managing inventory for numerous raw materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee inventory costing, including the calculation and documentation of standard costs and inventory values.

  • Manage costs for external contract manufacturing organizations, labor and overhead rates, and direct material costs.

  • Coordinate with Manufacturing and Supply Chain teams to ensure accuracy in material costs, bill-of-materials, work orders, and labor and overhead rates.

  • Maintain inventory management systems, including the setup of items, bill-of-materials, and understanding and facilitating work order process flows.

  • Prepare inventory-related journal entries, ensuring that cost of goods sold and inventory are recorded according to US GAAP and reconciled with underlying support.

  • Assess inventory obsolescence and net realizable value.

  • Review and approve internal inventory cycle counts and inventory adjustments.

  • Contribute to the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes by completing reconciliations and resolving issues.

  • Perform monthly variance analysis on cost of goods sold and balance sheet accounts, preparing commentary to explain variances.

  • Identify, recommend, and implement best practices in inventory accounting, streamlining inventory operations, systems, and procedures.

  • Assist in annual budget planning and reforecasting.

  • Support audits by providing necessary records and documentation.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Supply Chain, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in inventory accounting within a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including working in an FDA/GMP regulated environment.

  • Familiarity with NetSuite.

  • CPA or CMA certification is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

  • Strong drive to challenge the status quo and implement continuous improvements.

  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.

  • In-depth knowledge of cost accounting methodologies and US GAAP.

  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize effectively.

  • Proficiency in ERP system management and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
