UMKC Innovation Center

Housed in the University of Missouri-Kansas City, the UMKC Innovation Center works across the university and the community to connect, support, sustain and empower entrepreneurial efforts within our region and across the country. Services are provided across the center's four pillars:

* Entrepreneurial Education, which, through programs like the Missouri Small Business Development Center, Missouri APEX Accelerators and ScaleUP! serves aspiring and established entrepreneurs from inception through maturity by delivering high-impact training programs, business development technical assistance and coaching.

* Regional Ecosystem Development, which, through KCSourceLink and MOSourceLink, connects entrepreneurs to the right resources and develops stronger resources for entrepreneurship.

* Technology Venture Studio, which, through programs like Digital Sandbox KC, Whiteboard2Boardroom and KCInvestED, builds the tech community and nurtures, supports, grows and provides project funding for our region's founders and their early-stage innovations.

* SourceLink, which provides consulting and tools to help cities, states and regions nationwide build better-connected and more cohesive infrastructures to spark, support and sustain entrepreneurship.

Job Description

Summary

Assist Technology Venture Studio programs to include Digital Sandbox KC, Whiteboard2Boardroom, KCInvestEd, and University Commercialization programming, in communications and scheduling with applicants, managing operations for program contracts, data collection and analysis, coordinating marketing efforts, generating reports, organizing events and outreach, and miscellaneous administrative tasks.

Duties

* Serve as point person for Digital Sandbox KC application operations to include communications, scheduling and tracking

* Schedule pitch sessions including evaluation team and applicants

* Conduct data collection, oversee the Studio's CRM processes and accurately input company metrics for reporting purposes

* Coordinate logistics, contract management and deliverables between various parties in the Digital Sandbox KC awardee process and the university.

* Assist with efforts to create community and connectivity with technology companies within the Studio and external partners, mentors and investors

* Represent the programs at external community events

* Coordinate marketing and communication needs of Technology Venture Studio with the UMKC Innovation Center marketing team

* Compile Studio information to assist the director in writing grant/program reports as necessary.

* Oversee Studio expense transactions, reconciliations, and purchasing activities

* Assist with the coordination of various events, including event setup logistics; registration; communication; promotion; speaker coordination; etc.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills

We're looking for someone with solid communication skills across various channels who has:

* Ability to successfully handle multiple competing projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment, with little direct supervision

* Ability to adapt to writing tone and voice of our organization and for different audiences

* Ability to review contracts with a discerning eye for alignment with a defined program

* Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space

* Strong follow through to manage multiple timelines and deliverables

* Ability to communicate in a professional manner with entrepreneurs, partners, and community contacts

* Highly organized and detail-oriented

* Strong data collection, analysis and reporting experience

* Familiarity with Outlook, Excel, Canva, Teamwork, Eventbrite, Qualtrics beneficial

* Ability to learn new skills and concepts quickly

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the entrepreneurial ecosystem
  • 5 years of Project Management experience
Preferred Qualifications

Annual salary for this position will be $60,000 - $65,000 year.
