Overview

The NPI Engineer is responsible for the successful introduction of new products, engineering changes and special projects into production. This role involves coordinating with various departments to ensure that new products meet quality, cost, and delivery targets. The NPI Engineer will play a key role in the design, development, and implementation of manufacturing processes for new products



Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

    Project Management: Lead and manage new product introduction projects from concept through production.
    • This includes successful implementation of Engineering Change Orders (ECO), Product Sample Requests (PSR) and Total Cost Alignment (TCA) changes and projects into production.
    • Pre-SOP builds: Lead and manage for successful builds prior to SOP. Assuring all inputs are ready before and deliverables are achieved after each build.
    • Communication - Participates in all New Product Development (NPD) core team meetings as the production plant representative. Assures effective, assertive communication.
    • NPD procedures adherence - Assures NPI process in the production plant is aligned to NPD phases. Actively participates in improving processes and best practices.
  • Design Collaboration: Work closely with design and development teams to ensure manufacturability of new products, with a special focus on quality.
  • Process Development: Develop and implement manufacturing processes for new products, including work instructions, flow charts, and procedures. Special focus on safety, quality and on time delivery of the products.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure new products meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Supplies Coordination: Collaborate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and components, including internally manufactured components.
  • Cost Management: Monitor and control project costs to ensure they stay within budget.
  • Process Readiness, Flawless Launch: Ensure all key deliverables have been completed so that the production team can sustain the new process after SOP. Ensure all production KPI are met.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Implement lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency and reduce waste. Drives for new technologies and best manufacturing practices to be considered for process design.
  • Problem Solving: Address and resolve any issues that arise during the new product introduction process.
  • Training: Train production staff on new processes and equipment.


Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field)preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in new product introduction or a related field.
  • Skills:
    • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
    • Proficiency in CAD software and Microsoft Office.
    • Knowledge of quality systems and standards (e.g., ISO, Six Sigma, etc.).
    • Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies. Change agent for processes and procedures.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes.

Desired Attributes:

  • Certification in Project Management (PMP) or Six Sigma
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous in ensuring all aspects of new product introduction are thoroughly planned and executed.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve issues quickly.
  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Active Leadership: Capable of leading projects and guiding teams towards successful outcome, through active involvement and direct participation.

Work Environment:

  • Location: Based in a manufacturing facility, with some travel to supplier sites and other company locations. Not a hybrid position.
  • Conditions: May involve working in production areas with exposure to noise, dust, and machinery.

$66,000 - $113,000
