Position Summary
Under administrative direction, the Director of Library Human Resources leads a human resources program that supports the strategic goals of the University Library. Provide oversight for all Library HR services, including HR operations, recruitment, training and organizational development, performance management, employee relations, policy interpretation, and the development and implementation of programs that support the mission and values of the Library. The Director of Library Human Resources provides counsel and expertise to Library leadership, managers, and employees on complex HR issues.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Library leadership to develop long and short-term goals and objectives for the overall Library human resources program in support of Library strategic and operational goals.
  • Direct, oversee and manage the work of Library HR team members to ensure Library HR goals are met. Provide mentoring, guidance and feedback to support career development.
  • Provide leadership and expertise to senior leaders, managers, and employees in all areas of human resources, including employee and labor relations, professional development and engagement, recruiting, performance management, and compensation.
  • Serve as the liaison to various campus offices including UIC HR, Labor and Employee Relations, the Office of Access and Equity, Faculty Affairs and Legal Counsel to resolve HR matters.
  • Oversee and continually improve operations and workflows for all Library HR processes (i.e. HRIS transactions, onboarding, offboarding, payroll, leaves of absence, etc).
  • Facilitate the recruitment and retention of faculty, academic professionals, and Civil Service staff. Manage recruiting activities from initial recruitment through onboarding.
  • Provide faculty affairs-related support to the dean and Library faculty on HR matters and facilitate faculty HR processes.
  • Develop Library human resources policies and processes in accordance with established University policy; interpret HR policy and/or acceptable management practices to ensure fair and consistent application of University policies.
  • Oversee leave of absence management and accommodation request processes for the University Library.
  • Develop and coordinate employee programs to support professional development and engagement and foster an inclusive work environment.
  • Provides regular reports and data analysis to Library leaders and stakeholders for compensation analysis and recommendations, tracking of HR metric and evaluation of HR programs and activities.

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelor's Degree
    Minimum of 5 years of related and progressive Human Resources experience.
    Previous supervisory experience.
    Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communications skills.
    Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high level of discretion.
    Attention to detail.
    Strong critical-thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
    Ability to identify organizational and business needs and drive continuous improvements.
    Excellent organization, administrative, and project management skills to prioritize and address multiple tasks.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Experience in a public academic institution.

    Salary and Benefits:

    The budgeted salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. Benefits for a twelve month appointment include 24 days vacation; 12 days annual sick leave with additional disability benefits; 11 paid holidays; medical insurance (contribution based on annual salary; coverage for dependents may be purchased); two dental plans available; life insurance paid for by the State; participation in one of the retirement options of the State Universities Retirement System compulsory (8% of salary is withheld and is tax exempt until withdrawal); no Social Security coverage, but Medicare payment is required.
