The work involves the generation of human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) derived 3D retinal organoids to model specific genetic forms of IRD. The incumbent will work as Lead Research Tech in the iPSC Facility of the Ocular Genomics Institute. In this role, they will use multiple research protocols, including molecular and cellular biology techniques. They will plan and design experiments, evaluate results and draw scientific conclusions. They will be expected to modify methods and techniques as necessary, prepare results for publications or presentations and supervise and train other lab members, and perform shared laboratory management duties. Their job duties will include:

  • Generation and characterization of human iPSCs and differentiation of hiPSCs-derived retinal organoids.
  • Design and modify research protocols.
  • Develop research methodologies according to the research objectives.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems with experiments.
  • Keep written documentation of all data obtained from experimental work and technical procedures.
  • Perform data analyses, written reports on status of research, including statistical and graphic summaries of findings and possible conclusions.
  • Contribute to grant proposals and manuscripts.
  • Monitor supplies inventory, generate orders for needed supplies
  • Supervise and train other team members in specialized research techniques.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, with strong communication skills
  • Comply with all institutional, state, federal, local regulations and the ground rules established in the Ocular Genomics Institute relationship contract.
