The Application Specialist supports the Protective & Marine Division in spray application of product and reports to the R&D Technical Manager. This position currently sits in the Warrensville Hts, OH Technology Center and will be relocating to the Brecksville location. Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. - Project Management
- Ensures all assigned projects are completed in accordance with project requests, under minimal supervision.
- Leads moderately and extremely challenging projects including large portions of a technically challenging projects with minimal supervision
- Manages large projects and designs studies to assess real world application performance as well as lead field applications. Has awareness of current application methodologies and equipment within market.
- Establishes own timeline by required due date
- Partners with team members to execute key project deliverables.
- Maintains interaction with Marketing and other various support groups and vendors to ensure successful and timely delivery of results.
- Technical and Professional Knowledge
- Identification/Assessment of technologies, component packaging, chemical/paint making and testing, data analysis, and application of chemical/paint formulation/knowledge to meet performance requirements.
- Leads application evaluations within and outside division, issues detailed summary reports. Within division, recognized as go-to expert for application guidance to achieve desired application performance.
- Has broad awareness of group business knowledge and understands global impact of work decisions.
- Establishes and executes experiments using appropriate experimental design parameters.
- Analyzes data, makes decisions based upon data, demonstrates critical thinking and recognizes anomalies.
- Performs background searches on research concerns, evaluations, and pitfalls to generate solutions.
- Trains and may mentor other employees.
- Creates training manuals and documentation to support application using various equipment including but not limited to airless, pressure pot, and plural application equipment
- Partners with application vendors to trial and qualify updated application equipment
- Trains others on P&M products application, formulations, and testing protocols.
- Safety and Quality
- Ensure Safety, Housekeeping, and ISO practices are followed.
- Maintains certifications and follows quality standards, such as ITM's and ICM's
- Actively seeks to reduce risk through corrective actions of unsafe practices.
- Documents and maintains an up-to-date electronic lab notebook and project folder per ISO standards
- Communication
- Written documentation and verbal presentation of information.
- Accurate documentation of lab results and technical information.
- Communicates/interfaces with other departments, develops relationships & influences others.
- Communicates work progress, status, completion, issues and suggests solutions.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
- High school diploma or equivalent of.
- 5 years of experience with spray application techniques, coating experience
- Independent time management skills and ability to balance the workload associated with supporting multiple segments and projects.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Coating experience with on-site customer interaction.
- Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to tailor presentation to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Mechanical aptitude to address spray equipment issues
Travel Requirements: 20% Upon completion of construction, the individual selected for this role will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Construction is expected to be complete in 2025. Until then, the role will be based at Warrensville Technology Center, located at 4440 Warrensville Center Road, Warrensville Hts, OH 44128.
