About the Department:

Disability Services ensures equitable access to George Mason University's programs and services for qualified students with disabilities. About the Position:

The Assistant Director of the Executive Functioning Program (EFP), reporting to the Associate Director in Disability Services for MASI/EFP, plays a key role in supporting the growth and development of the EFP. This includes overseeing EFP part-time wage staff, providing professional development opportunities for staff, developing and implementing accommodations, and determining program eligibility for applicants. The Assistant Director supports faculty and staff with questions related to accommodations and program support. Additionally, the Assistant Director assists in expanding the program and hosts informational sessions for potential students. In the absence of the Associate Director, the Assistant Director assumes oversight of the EFP and steps into their role as needed.

Responsibilities:



  • Develops and assists the Associate Director with day-to-day operations and ongoing program development, ensuring smooth and effective execution of tasks;
  • Collaborates with and advises faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders in the delivery of services, providing guidance through meetings, consultations, and resource sharing;
  • Develops and co-facilitates staff training, orientation, and informational sessions, ensuring staff are equipped with necessary skills and knowledge to support the program;
  • Interprets and implements university, state, and federal laws and policies related to Disability Services, ensuring compliance through clear communication and adherence to guidelines;
  • Develops and implements reasonable accommodations for students within the EFP, ensuring timely and appropriate support by assessing individual needs and coordinating services;
  • Supervises student and wage staff, providing direction, feedback, and oversight to ensure effective performance and program support;
  • Develops and maintains accurate records of yearly academic and program-related statistics, utilizing data to assess program effectiveness and inform future improvements;
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for prospective families and community members, providing detailed information about the EFP program, answering inquiries, and offering guidance throughout the enrollment process;
  • Develops and maintains a system for tracking and documenting prospective students, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records for follow-up communication and program planning;
  • Regularly updates prospective student records, maintaining clear and organized documentation to ensure timely outreach and follow-up with families;
  • Cultivates relationships with prospective families, providing personalized support and resources to help them make informed decisions about program participation;
  • Develops and maintains outreach strategies to engage community members, schools, and organizations, ensuring awareness of the EFP program and its service;
  • Adapts to the evolving needs of the program and contributes to various administrative or strategic initiatives as necessary;
  • Communicates with parents and students on an as-needed basis, providing support, answering questions, and ensuring clear understanding of program expectations and accommodations;
  • Reviews documentation and conducts interviews with students to assess eligibility for the EFP program, ensuring thorough and accurate evaluation of individual needs;
  • Develops and maintains a structured process for selecting students for the EFP program, ensuring a fair and transparent selection procedure;
  • Establishes and maintains ongoing communication with students and parents to provide updates, clarify concerns, and offer guidance throughout their involvement in the program;
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with students, parents, and faculty to foster collaboration and ensures that all stakeholders are informed and supported throughout the academic year;
  • Continuously updates and refines the selection criteria and processes based on program needs, feedback, and evolving best practices;
  • Serves as the acting leader in the absence of the Associate Director, assuming full oversight and responsibility for the Executive Functioning Program (EFP), ensuring continuity of services and smooth day-to-day operations;
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive understanding of all operational, administrative, and programmatic aspects of the EFP, ensuring readiness to step into the Associate Director's role at any time;
  • Ensures that key responsibilities, such as accommodation processes, staff supervision, and student support, continue without interruption, using established protocols and resources;
  • Develops and implements strategies for managing challenges or concerns that may arise during the Associate Director's absence, ensuring that these issues are addressed promptly and effectively;
  • Maintains regular updates and documentation for the Associate Director to ensure smooth transitions back into the role and to support long-term program development; and
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience typically obtained in 1 year of work in providing direct services to individuals with disabilities;
  • Experience working with students with autism and disabilities related to executive functioning;
  • Working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and other relevant laws;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills;
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on addressing the unique needs of students with disabilities;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a group and/or independently with individuals from diverse backgrounds;
  • Ability to focus on supporting diverse individuals in a respectful, inclusive manner;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all student-related matters, ensuring adherence to privacy laws and institutional guidelines.

    • This includes a thorough understanding of and compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and other relevant college regulations;


  • Ability to work effectively in a high-paced environment with frequent interruptions, while being sensitive to the unique challenges that students with disabilities may face;
  • Commitment in building and maintaining successful collaborative relationships in an all-inclusive campus community, with a focus on supporting students with varying needs and backgrounds; and
  • Proficient in operating various software programs, including data management platforms, Microsoft Office products, and assistive technologies that support students with disabilities in their academic work.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience typically obtained in 1 year of full-time experience in a university setting;
  • Experience working in post-secondary educational systems with a deep understanding of academic structures, student support services, and institutional policies;
  • Knowledge of best practices in higher education for students with autism and/or disabilities related to executive functioning;
  • Knowledge working with college students;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to guide and motivate teams, manage program initiatives, and make strategic decisions to support program goals;
  • Supervisory skills, including experience in managing and providing direction to staff, fostering professional development, offering constructive feedback, and ensuring effective team performance;
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators to develop, refine, and enhance academic programs and services that support and improve the student experience; and
  • Ability to effectively engage with a diverse population of students.
