The budgeted salary range for the position is $58,000 to $65,000.

Position Summary
Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for career advising and programming for UIC students, with a special focus on graduating seniors, graduate students, and alumni seeking services. Primary responsibilities include providing career development education and resources in various formats, including individual sessions, workshops, panels, and programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person, virtual, and phone individual career advising to current students, alumni, and incoming students with a focus on assessment of career development goals, values, interests, skills, graduate school, and job search process (e.g., resume, cover letter, networking, social media profiles, etc.).
  • Plan, facilitate, and lead virtual, in-person, classroom, and group career workshops focusing on various career development topics.
  • Design new and innovative programs and professional panels aimed at supporting graduating students, graduate students, and alumni. Design and deliver quality career-related programs focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
  • Develop and execute the transition to professional life programming, such as "Class of 20XX Career Launch Series" and job fair preparation workshops.
  • Serve as a liaison to various colleges, academic programs, and student affairs departments.
  • Maintain close contact and collaboration with employer relations for the purpose of communicating regularly with the advising staff about various recruiting trends.
  • Serve as point person for events such as, but not limited to, graduate school fairs, post-doctoral career expos, and similar graduate and professional level support programming.
  • Write content for the Career Services website as well as various other educational electronic and print materials for the department.
  • Create post-assessment materials in order to survey the learning outcomes of workshops and programs.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field preferred.
    • At least 5 years of career services experience in a higher education environment or similar related experience.
    • Master Career Counselor (MCC) designation, National Certified Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Social Worker preferred.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong planning, presentation, and organizational skills.
    • Advanced knowledge of career development and assessment concepts.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Strong Interest Inventory (SII), Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), and/or similar career assessment certification(s).
    • Solid knowledge of AI tools utilized in the career advising of students and alumni.
    • Solid knowledge of social media utilized in the career advising of students and alumni.
    • Experience providing assistance editing resumes, curricula vitae (CVs), personal statements, and cover letters for students and alumni.
    • Experience providing feedback on case interview preparation and other interviewing formats.
