About the Job

The MN Landscape Arboretum is searching to fill 4 temporary Gate House positions. These positions are for UMN Students (job code 2222) or will be hired as a 67 temp/casual (job code 0001). Ideally the positions would begin at the end of April or early May and go through the end of August or September with variable hours; schedules ranging from 20 - 40 hours per week. All work is done in-person, onsite at the MN Landscape Arboretum located in Chaska, MN. The Gate House Attendants are responsible for greeting guests and collecting admission while providing top quality customer service. This position will require superior customer service with an ability to work with a diverse group of clientele, attention to detail, and a strong knowledge of the MN Landscape Arboretum.

Responsibilities:

90% Greet Guests & Collect Admission Fees

  • Greet visitors
  • Provide information to visitors about the MN Landscape Arboretum including the Oswald Visitor Center, Horticultural Research Center, Farm at the Arb, and Applehouse.
  • Direct visitors to the correct location for their activity as necessary
  • Collect Admission Fees
  • Promote and sell MN Landscape Arboretum memberships to non-member visitors
  • Process transactions on POS system, run credit card transactions; make change for visitors when appropriate
  • Keep up to date with the latest bloom reports to be able to recommend 'must see locations' to visitors

10% Process, Prepare & Reconcile Daily Activity Reports

  • Verify and reconcile daily activity reports at the end of each shift
  • Track visitors, discount tickets, group attendance, weather conditions, etc
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED
  • Ability to interact in a public setting in a respectful and professional manner
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to stand for 4-6 hours continuously

Additional Required Qualifications for UMN Student Position:

  • Must be a registered UMN student and maintain the number of UM required credits

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in an Arboretum or Nature Center
  • Proven experience in a highly customer service oriented environment with a diverse group of clientele
  • Previous POS system use experience
  • Familiarity with Landscape Arboretum programs, grounds and buildings
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $18.00; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
