Commercial Real Estate Finance Group (CREFG) Asset Originations

The Commercial Real Estate Finance Group (CREFG) Asset Originations team is responsible for the underwriting, structuring, and closing of commercial real estate loans across our CMBS and balance sheet lending platforms. Our team partners closely with originators to evaluate opportunities, structure transactions, assess credit risk, and lead deals from initial underwriting through closing.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Vice President and Lead Underwriter to manage complex commercial real estate debt transactions while leading and developing a team of underwriting professionals. This individual will combine hands-on transaction leadership with mentorship of Associates and Analysts and will play a key role in driving credit decisions and transaction execution.

Responsibilities

* Serve as the lead underwriter and primary transaction manager on commercial real estate transactions across property types providing direction to Associates and Analysts throughout the underwriting and closing process.
* Lead the credit analysis and investment rationale on assigned transactions, including cash flow analysis, sponsor assessment, property valuation, and risk evaluation
* Engage directly with sponsors and brokers on deal terms, negotiating reserves, covenants, and structural provisions
* Prepare and present underwriting recommendations and credit memoranda for approval committees.
* Run scenario and stress testing to inform structuring and pricing decisions
* Manage, train, and mentor a team of Associates and Analysts, building strong underwriting judgment and technical skill
* Coordinate with capital markets, credit, legal, borrowers, and third-party advisors to drive transactions through closing.

Qualifications

* 8+ years of commercial real estate underwriting and structuring experience, including CMBS and/or balance sheet lending
* Experience underwriting across major property types (multifamily, office, retail, industrial, hospitality)
* Strong track record leading deals directly with sponsors and brokers
* Prior experience managing or mentoring junior underwriting talent
* Strong writing and presentation skills, with demonstrated success presenting and influencing decisions in credit committees and similar approval forums.
* Collaborative team player who works well across originations, credit, and legal functions
* Bachelor's degree required; CFA/MBA a plus but not required
