Description

The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is seeking a candidate who is pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field to join our Finance team as a summer intern. This position works in cooperation with the program leaders at various YMCA hubs throughout Chicago to maintain data and financial integrity in the various Association systems. The accounting intern will be performing accounts receivable, billing, data analyzation and reporting functions which will have a direct impact on the Association. The Accounting Intern will work at an assigned YMCA center within the YMCA of Metro Chicago association and will partner with the Billing Coordinator on a daily basis and report to the Billing Manager for their assigned location. The ability to travel to multiple locations in one day is required.

This position would work at multiple locations in the city to help work with youth directors on childcare accounts to keep the records accurate. The main focus is working with 3rd party childcare funders and state assistance.

Pay rate is $17.00 per hour

Scope of Responsibilities



  • Assist management with pre-qualification input for financial aid applicants
  • Assist Billing Coordinator with the preparation of information for pending and approved financial aid registrants
  • Assist Program Directors with input and data management of attendance information into customer management database for scholarship registrants and assists with the collection efforts and communication
  • Create weekly reporting for accounts receivable and assist the Billing Coordinator in making calls to third party agencies to inquire about pending cases and status updates
  • Assist Billing Coordinator and Program Director with maintaining secure files for all third-party recipient paperwork
  • Serves as a backup on weekly Day Camp call with Billing Coordinator and Program Director


Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:



  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Capability to effectively multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Strict attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with internal and external contacts
  • Proficiency in word processing, Microsoft Excel, and e-mail
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of the YMCA of Metro Chicago and the communities we serve
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to commute to multiple locations in one workday


Child Abuse Prevention: Supports the YMCA's commitment to child abuse prevention by:



  • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
  • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
  • Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
  • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
