Welding Foremen are responsible for assisting management in overseeing a group of welders to ensure work is completed safely and timely. This is a working foreman position responsible for performing repair and maintenance on containers, equipment, and/or vehicles. Responsibilities of Position:
- Performs painting sanding, grinding, cutting, welding and other fabrication or repair work on company containers, compactors, and other equipment in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
- Assists management with the daily activities of welders.
- Coordinates welders' work and repairs, as well as monitor progress and quality.
- Monitors inventory of replacement parts and restock as needed.
- Performs minor and major adjustments on all systems of the container for proper and safe operation.
- Repairs, rebuilds, and restores various types of containers.
- Monitors and enforces quality and safety standards, and ensures all compliance goals are met or exceeded.
- Assists management in conducting welder observations.
- Ensures completion of daily work, and ensures all productivity goals are met or exceeded.
- Welds steel and aluminum components using Mig and Arc welding equipment.
- Cuts steel using a plasma cutter or torch.
- Fabricates steel components on trucks and containers.
- Performs standard layouts and set-ups of dimensions and tolerances.
- Performs layout operations, develops fixtures for one-of-a-kind units, and selects optimum welding process.
- Provides assistance, guidance and training to less experienced welders.
- Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Company and OSHA standards.
- Completes safety checks on containers and compactors.
- Completes required paperwork utilizing computer system.
- Performs related work such as flame cutting, bending, forming, beveling, notching of metal and plastic parts.
- Estimates time and materials used and cost of repairs.
- Inspects the quality of repairs/rebuilds completed by external company.
- Utilizes standard shop hand tools, measuring devices, and equipment.
- Performs on-site repairs at customer locations.
- Professional interaction with internal and external customers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:
- Cutting torch skills; ability to use plasma cutter.
- Ability to operate a forklift safely.
- Proficient in the use and interpretation of installation diagrams and troubleshooting manuals.
- Familiar with the use of schematics, wiring diagrams, and related troubleshooting guides pertaining to medium and heavy vehicle operating systems.
- Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
- Excellent welding and mechanical aptitude.
- Maintains a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:
- Knowledge of MIG/ARC and stick welding.
- 5 years welding and cutting experience.
- Knowledge of small shop tools.
- Basic knowledge of operating a computer.
Physical Requirements in a Regular workday:
- Continuously lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 10lbs. Frequently up to 20lbs, Occasionally up to 75lbs.
- Continuously working outside in changing temperature, wet/humid conditions.
- Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, other airborne matter.
- Continuously walking/sitting/standing.
- Continuously stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling.
- Continuously Climbing and/or balancing.
Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
- Ability to travel between offices, as required.
- Ability to work flexible hours; overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Valid driver's license (if applicable).
- Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language.
