What you'll do

The Mobility lab team is responsible for the creation of new environments, as well as the operational support of existing ones. Requests for new labs, fixes and improvements to these labs come in daily, and it is the responsibility of this Mobility lab team to fulfill such requests. To this end, we requires assistance in delivering and sustaining operational labs and supporting systems to both internal and external stakeholders.

This intern will help build a new lab datacenter by helping to build out racks of equipment based on supplied design. This will also require cabling and labeling as well as building out the network and systems that have been installed. Finally, the candidate will work to document the as-built procedures as well as a framework for supporting the deployed systems. You will work directly with other datacenter mid to senior level engineers while working to deploy these systems as well as cross-biz teams that will assist in network integration.


The day-to-day

  • Datacenter build out - Rack and stack, cabling, labeling and documentation
  • Linux and windows administration
  • Security posturing and implementation
  • Network monitoring and management
  • Datacenter operations and best practices

Internship Program Details:

  • You will work onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your 12-13 week internship. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams.

  • Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility.

  • To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.


What you'll need

Education Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in data science, computer science, MIS or a related field
  • To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2025 and June 2026

Internship Dates:

  • You must be available for the full duration of the 12-13 week internship program. Note limited exceptions may be granted. Viasat offers two options based on semester and quarter academic calendars:

    • Cohort 1: May 20th, 2025 - August 15th, 2025

    • Cohort 2: June 17th, 2025 - September 12th, 2025

Additional Requirements:

  • A willingness to learn new systems and technologies
  • A basic knowledge of IP addressing and subnets
  • Knowledge of cable standards (ethernet, coax, etc.)
  • Understanding of LAN/WAN networks
  • Good troubleshooting skills
  • Exceptional organizing and time-management skills

What will help you on the job

  • Scripting experience using Python, JavaScript, REST or equivalent language.
  • VMWare or AWS/Cloud experience
  • Basic automation experience
  • Knowledge or experience with tools such as Git, Artifactory, Jenkins, Puppet, Ansible, Docker
  • Data center experience

Salary range

$20.91 - $56.97 / hourly.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $25.96 - $67.07/ hourly
