Job Description

The University of Missouri (MU) College of Engineering Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) and the Institute for Data Science and Informatics (IDSI) invite applications for a faculty position (open rank) through collaborative hiring with a focus on data science, artificial intelligence, computer vision, remote sensing and geospatial data engineering. This position represents a tenure-track position (51% FTE) in the EECS and complements with 49% FTE appointment in IDSI. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing the EECS Department and the IDSI's missions through innovative data science teaching, collaborative research, and service for the interdisciplinary program.

Responsibilities: The faculty member will conduct collaborative, interdisciplinary research advancing data science, informatics and computer science innovation with real-world applications, pursue external funding opportunities to support research initiatives in data science and informatics, actively engage in scholarly dissemination through publications, conferences, and collaborations with industry, academia, and government partners, develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor students in both the EECS Department and the data science program, including supervising case study and capstone projects and integrate interdisciplinary and applied approaches to data science education, emphasizing hands-on learning and collaborative problem-solving. In addition, the faculty member will be expected to contribute to the governance and strategic planning of the IDSI, support the development of new programs, partnerships, and outreach initiatives that expand the institute's impact and participate in activities that enhance the visibility and reputation of IDSI at regional, national, and international levels.

Qualifications

Position requires a Ph.D. in computer science, electrical and computer engineering, data science, informatics or a closely relate field.

Candidates will be evaluated on a demonstrated record of research and teaching excellence evidenced by publications, funding, or industry collaboration, experience or strong interest in interdisciplinary and collaborative research and education. Evaluations will include excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a commitment to fostering high impact interdisciplinary research, expertise in emerging data science areas such as ethical AI, quantum computing, or data analytics in one of the emphasis areas - biomedical, geospatial, etc., prior experience in program development, curriculum design, or professional training in data science. The successful candidate will provide vision, leadership and guidance in the areas of electrical and computer engineering, computer science, informatics and data science and work closely with multiple departments or groups to grow their research areas and develop world class research programs at the University of Missouri.
