BASIC FUNCTION:

The Hydro Treating Unit Superintendent is responsible for the immediate operation of the Hydro Treating, Utilities and Raw Materials Unloading process units. This position maintains safety and quality standards while optimizing production efficiency and will also facilitate work teams to maintain continuous operations and production in desired quantity and quality.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Uncompromising attitude towards the safe work performance of the organization, its employees and those who visit.
  • Coordinates the plant production demands with the hydrotreater unit daily production schedule.
  • Investigates and directs correction of equipment and operational problems.
  • Maintains housekeeping standards and safety practices.
  • Fosters a good rapport with the union, ensures understanding of the Collective Bargaining Agreement by all salaried direct reports and participates on the Company negotiation team.
  • Oversees coordination of raw material movements through the Raw Material Unloading area to supply feedstock for the Hydrotreater.
  • Ensures that employees are trained on their responsibilities and are familiar with work rules and job requirements.
  • Trains, sustains and facilitates the team process in safety, health, environmental, quality, cost competitiveness and manufacturing procedures and policies.
  • Resolves conflicts timely.
  • Recommends improvements and desirable modification in organization, procedures, policies, standards, specification, methods, etc.
  • Communicates with peers and work teams to enhance employee relations and enrich employee morale.
  • Facilitates Company communications with work teams.
  • Participate on the Emergency Response Team.
  • Respond to off-hour emergencies ensuring the safety and integrity of the operation is maintained. Hands-on leader with strong activity and visibility in the units.
  • Interact with plant leadership and key departments including but not limited to scheduling, laboratory, account, EH&S, HR and engineering/maintenance.



Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from timeto time in their sole and complete discretion.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years in a refinery/petrochemical or industrial production management capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership role and high-performance work teams.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience operating a hydrotreating unit.
  • Leadership in a union environment.
  • Industrial plant utility and raw material management experience.

EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or related technical discipline is required.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Proven ability to lead and direct the work of others.
  • Team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions with solid time management skills to effectively multi-task, meet deadlines and manage complexity within the workday.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read and understand PFDs and P&IDs would be a plus.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises operations bargaining unit employees as well as salaried administrative employees and Unit Supervisors to perform work safely, efficiently and to a quality standard during a 24/7 workweek.

WORK CONDITIONS:

Office and plant based with up to 10% travel required. Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs., climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted).Depending on location must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
