PT Food Service Custodian

Come and join the Ball State University Dining team on the beautiful Ball State campus. Multiple late afternoon positions and schedules available! A 2nd shift premium of 50 cents per hour will be added to the base wage. Specific schedules can be discussed during the interview process.

Under supervision, perform routine heavy labor duties in a food service area.

1.High School graduate or equivalent ( GED).

1.Must have clean body, teeth, hair, nails, and clothing.
2.No allergies to soaps, cleaning agents, chemicals, or other materials or environmental factors in food service, e.g. steam, dust, etc.
3.Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, and University policies, procedures, communications, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
4.Must be able to perform all physical and mental requirements outlined in each job duty/responsibility.
5. Must have at least one year work experience (full time or part time).
6.You must be 18 years or older.

1.Six (6) months successful employment in a commercial custodial position performing similar duties to those expected at BSU.

Organize, scrape, prewash, lift and rack items to be washed, set up and operate pan washing machine, store items, maintain sanitary work area.

Sweep, mop and scrub floors, wash walls, and ceilings throughout food service areas.

Requires the physical ability to stoop, crouch, reach, grasp, stretch, push, pull, climb, walk, stand, lift, balance, and exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the visual ability to read item labels and directions, perceive depth, etc. Task requires the ability to use mops, buckets with manual wringers, brooms, ladders, electric buffers, electric floor scrubber, manual scrapers, etc. Task exposes employee to various working conditions such as vibration, chemical cleaning supplies, atmospheric conditions, etc. Task requires ability to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information and to read, comprehend, follow and provide written instructions and information.

Clean greasy or soiled food service areas and equipment including but not limited to tops of refrigerators and ovens, motors, air filters, dirt system, vents, walls and ceilings, etc.

Requires the physical ability to stoop, crouch, reach, grasp, push, pull, climb, walk, stand, lift, balance, and exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Clean, renovate, and renew floor surfaces and finishes including carpet maintenance; perform other cleaning duties including, but not limited to, cleaning food service equipment, windows, ceiling fixtures, etc.; change light bulbs/tubes; clean and resupply restrooms.

Dispose of trash, refuse and waste materials; clean refuse containers and
areas.

Lock and unlock food service areas to insure security.

Requires the physical ability to stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, grasp, and exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the visual ability to perceive depth. Task requires the ability to grasp, handle, and use keys, allen wrench, etc. Task exposes employee to inside and outside environmental conditions. Obtain and deliver supplies and materials as necessary.

Requires the physical ability to stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull and grasp items, lift arms overhead and stack stock 6' high, operate flat bed skid, dolly, various carts several times during work shift, and exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the ability to write food amounts and the visual ability to read labels, directions and warnings, distinguish color, perceive depth, etc. Task exposes employee to inside and outside environmental conditions, including freezer conditions. Train and direct student personnel as assigned.

Receive, store, inventory and issue food supplies and equipment as assigned, involves lifting heavy objects and reading, counting and recording data.

Task requires the visual ability to read food lists, analog and/or digital scales, labels, purchase orders, delivery forms, distinguish color, perceive depth, etc. Task requires employee to be exposed to extreme cold (32 degrees or below), extreme heat (100 degrees or above), atmospheric conditions, chemical cleaning supplies, etc. Task requires ability to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information, i.e., item lists, labels, food amounts, memos, numbers, perform basic mathematical calculations, scales and use basic calculators. Remove, arrange, replace and/or move dining furniture and food service equipment as necessary.

Assist with dishwashing and storage.

Requires the physical ability to kneel, reach, stoop, crouch, stand, walk, push, pull, grasp during work shift, etc. Task requires employee to use mechanical dish machine, dish and glass dispensers, cleaning compounds, goggles, mask, gloves, racks, spray nozzles, garbage disposal, conveyor, etc. Task exposes employee to inside environmental conditions, mechanical parts, heat, chemical cleaning supplies, noise, etc. Task requires ability to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral
instructions and information and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information.

Date and price stock items as needed.

Requires the physical ability to stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp during work shift, and exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Task requires employee to work with flat bed skid with dolly, 2-wheel
cart, marking pens, 2-wheel barrel cart, mechanical industrial trash compactor, etc. Task requires the visual ability to read pricing sheets, numbers, dates of different type size, distinguish color, and
perceive depth. Task exposes employee to inside and outside environmental conditions, atmospheric conditions, etc. Task requires the mental ability to use basic math skills such as counting, reading a scale and use a basic calculator.
