Salary Range: $99,840 - $126,750, depending on experience & qualifications

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Executive Director for Student Wellness provides vision, leadership, and manages the daily operations of RFUMS' newly formed Student Wellness Center. The executive director is patient and student-centered; a skilled clinician and manager; an effective health educator; a strong student advocate; a committed, visible collaborative member of the university community; and a leader with a breadth of perspective and excellent experience supporting inclusivity, and issues of equity and justice. The executive director leads the center in realizing a standard of care commensurate with the mission of RFUMS, as a model of healthcare delivery serving developing health professionals at the graduate and professional level of education.

The executive director facilitates the medical services and develops policies, procedures, and recommendations to enhance practice and quality assurance. The person in this role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, professional standards, and university practices. The position oversees outreach programs to students that emphasize wellness and healthy living and facilitates the integration of a lifestyle medicine model as the foundation for service and life-long health and learning outcomes for our students. The executive director facilitates the planning, promotion, and evaluation of wellness programs and services. This leader participates in the activities of the Division of Student Success and Wellness and represents the Wellness Center to students and other stakeholders in the university and local community.

The Executive Director of the Student Wellness Center serves as the medical and administrative director and supervises the student health and occupational health staff and administrative staff. The executive director collaborated to establish long-and-short range goals and both healthcare and learning objectives for the Wellness Center; develops and submits budget recommendations, monitors, verifies, and reconciles expenditure of budgeted funds; and constantly seeks to lead the Student Wellness Center in maintaining the highest quality of services possible. This position has an anticipated start date of June 30, 2025.

Who We Are:

The newly envisioned Student Wellness Center at Rosalind Franklin University will focus on holistic, preventative interventions providing students a foundation for well-being via self-care and healthy life choices. As a part of the Division of Student Success and Wellness, the center leads proactive wellness initiatives and clinical services for university students. Staff members include both primary care and behavioral health clinicians. The center will emphasize intervention strategies that lead to options for overall better mental and physical health, stress reduction, and prevention of disease while meeting the mental and physical healthcare needs of a majority of RFU students.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Goals:

  • Administrative Responsibilities include: developing and maintaining up-to-date policies and procedures, fiscal management, analyzing and collecting data, ensuring all clinical staff training and certifications are up to date, delineating scope of practice parameters, overseeing health care record keeping, and immunization record tracking. Ensures all state and federal guidelines are upheld and best practices (both clinical and administrative) are upheld.
  • Strategic Planning: Engaging partners in ongoing strategic planning and analysis, setting measurable and concrete goals with ongoing assessment and refinement of goals, and annual reports.
  • Staff Supervision: Responsible for supervising health center staff and their annual performance evaluations. Checks professional licensure status, references, and credentials. Organizes and/or finds relevant training opportunities for staff to attend. Establishes guidelines for accountability, productivity, and professionalism within the Student Wellness Center.
  • Visible and engaged across campus as a resource regarding student health issues, actively engages with campus partners to develop, implement and evaluate comprehensive holistic health initiatives that incorporate social justice concepts and principles.
  • Consultation: Communicates regularly with referral network, reviewing changes and updates to protocols. Provides guidance and direction regarding emerging health concerns within the University community and surrounding communities.
  • Clinical Care: Provides culturally sensitive and clinically appropriate assessment and treatment of student-patients by appointment and as triaged. Links students with community provider referrals, follows up as needed. Ensures timely and appropriate clinical documentation to meet standards of care. Provides education regarding health/wellness issues. Provides clinical supervision and consultation as needed and requested.
  • Public Health/Community Partners Liaison: Maintains close contacts with community partners, including Lake County Health Department, Rosalind Franklin Health Clinic, and other health services providers and emergency services, and the local, state, and national college health community. Develops a network of coordinated partnerships to ensure the best possible care for students. Plans for coordinated and cohesive response to community health issues.
  • Communication: Develop materials related to student health and community messaging around health/wellness issues that may be used in ongoing ways; may also be developed during times of crisis for immediate communication to our community regarding specific health-related emergencies. Communications with student patients, their families, and concerned third parties within the boundaries of confidentiality. Works closely with the Office of Student Life for students returning to campus post-hospitalization or leave.

Conditions of Employment:

Required Experience and Education:

  • Doctorate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and/or other education requirements approved by the Illinois Board of Nursing. Licensed by the Illinois Board of Nursing as an APRN and recognized by the Board as a nurse practitioner. A minimum 10 years of clinical experience is required.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Minimum three years of leadership in healthcare administration.

  • Demonstrated fiscal management and ability to utilize innovative approaches to generate funding, ability to be a collaborative leader within an experienced multi-disciplinary, and a collaborative team.
  • Lifestyle medicine orientation and preventive approach to providing health services to fulfill the needs of a diverse population.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and justice in the provision of wellness services.
  • Experience working with the college student population strongly preferred.
