Summary:

CPMG is in search of Network System Engineers to work onsite in Portsmouth, VA. The Network Systems Engineer is responsible for day-to-day on-site engineering services necessary to support the operations and maintenance of an enterprise PACS. The Network Systems Engineer shall be responsible for supporting and or performing the installation and configuration of new or replaced hardware and software components. Duties and responsibilities are outlined below and are categorized as primary and secondary.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Install, setup, configure, maintain and monitor the daily operations of the PACS network, cardiovascular and teleradiology related systems including LAN/WAN and wireless communications
  • Provide day to day operational support management for MTF's Radiation Oncology digital record system (hardware & software) and associated treatment planning and therapeutic equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and facilitate support call requirements for network communication hardware and software, including network cabling
  • Assist with the installation and integration of DICOM communication devices within the hospital
  • Evaluate, troubleshoot, setup, and configure DICOM communication devices
  • Install, setup, configure, maintain and monitor the daily operations of the PACS server infrastructure
  • Perform daily server system maintenance, including backups, restores, system checks, security updates, vulnerability compliance checks and software updates
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and facilitate support call requirements for server and workstation hardware and software
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, diagnose and maintain (including backing up) the PACS database, PACS storage archive (including SAN switches enterprise library and storage array), PACS RIS, HL7 interface, Tele-radiology system and DICOM modality work list and associated hardware.
  • Perform on-call duties to support the PACS.
  • Provide trouble call support by responding to routine and emergent help-desk support from end users.
  • Assist the Government in the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures for the PACS with emphasis on the computer room, network components and workflow.
  • Build, configure, support, maintain, relocate and integrate PACS Diagnostic, Quality Control, and Clinical Review workstations throughout the main hospital and remote branch clinics in support of the PACS environment
  • Provide support and management on PACS scanning and CD ROM / DVD distribution solutions.
  • Provide assistance to the PACS training personnel in training of NMCP staff on all aspects of the PACS workstation software and hardware environment as needed
  • Support end user logon accounts and security
  • Provide support for viewing applications used within the PACS system (e.g. efilm, Radworks, etc.)
  • Create and maintain registry settings, and workstation driver configurations
  • Support workstation kernel optimizing, memory management, session management settings, and application services as they support the DICOM viewer
  • Support and mange workstation hanging protocols, transmit rules, and auto-routing
  • Setup, configure, and manage PACS logon and system accounts.
  • Provide direct assistance to the workflow analysts in the development of workflow diagrams and definitions that apply to the entire process from ordering to image acquisition, storage, reading, display, and reporting out of a radiology study.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

Technical:

  • Shall be familiar with the clinical and diagnostic workflow for a radiology department in a large medical center.
  • Shall have the skills necessary to troubleshoot, configure and manage network hardware, including NIC's, cables, switches and routers
  • Shall have the skills necessary to troubleshoot, configure, install and manage a Windows based server environment
  • Shall have the skills necessary to install, configure and maintain a high availability server cluster environment.
  • Skills necessary to troubleshoot, configure, manage and support DICOM communications devices within a PACS environment
  • Shall have the skills necessary to troubleshoot and repair and replace high end computer workstations
  • Shall have the skills necessary to install, configure and support a centralized server and workstation environment
  • Shall have the skills necessary to optimize multiprocessor workstations and servers
  • Abilities to develop scripts to automate the users operating environment.
  • Shall have the ability to troubleshoot and diagnosis network, LAN / WAN issues
  • Shall have the ability to support Enterprise Tape Libraries, including the communication application
  • Shall have the ability to teach and or train on the technical functionality of the PACS
  • Shall have the ability to troubleshoot, management and support a Storage Area Networks and infrastructure components

Behavioral:

  • Shall have knowledge of Radiology, Medical and anatomy terminology
  • Shall have familiarity with diagnostic modalities located in Radiology, Cardiology, Urology, etc.
  • Shall have knowledge of the development, management and implementation of Business Continuous and Disaster Recovery environments
  • Shall have skills to support the connectivity and configuration of a PACS to other information systems such as a Hospital Information System (HIS) or Radiology Information System (RIS).
  • Shall have knowledge, skills and abilities to support a DICOM, IHE environment
  • Shall have knowledge and abilities to support HL7 messaging, and the Open System Inter-connections (OSI model)
  • Shall have ability and skills necessary to interrupt DICOM conformance statements
  • Shall have the skills necessary to develop and maintain documentation on the workflow, and policies and procedures of the PACS
  • Shall have the skills and ability to teach and train MTF staff on technical topics of PACS workstation environment to staff
  • Shall have excellent communication and listening skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least (3) years of experience as a PACS systems engineer/administrator supporting a major PACS system (ie. FUJI Synapse PACS, AGFA, McKesson).
  • Minimum of at least 6 years' experience in managing and supporting an enterprise network and windows system / server environment, including a minimum of 3 years of PACS experience.
  • Must have a Comp TIA Security + certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one (1) PACS related certification through an industry recognized organization such as American Board of Imaging Informatics (ABII) or PACS Administrator Registry and Certification Association (PARCA).
  • At least (3) year of experience working with network switches and routers
  • Working knowledge of Radiology PACS network infrastructure.
  • At least (3) years of experience as a PACS systems engineer supporting a major PACS system (i.e. FUJI Synapse PACS, AGFA, McKesson).
  • An Active Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) VMware Virtualization Software certification
