Rapiscan, an OSI Systems Company is seeking a Safety Engineer, based out of Billerica, MA.

The Safety Engineer will improve, develop, and implement safety standards, policies, and practices, including employee training to promote and improve industrial safety and health performance and ensure compliance. Reporting to Senior Manager - EHS & Facilities, the role's primary responsibility will be to the main Billerica MA manufacturing facility but will also assist with other satellite sites within the US.


Responsibilities

  • Perform risk assessments such as PHA's/JSA's on site operations.
  • Improve and/or Develop site safety procedures & processes.
  • Revamp and/or Develop employee safety training materials and deliver to employees.
  • Investigate all safety incidents to determine root cause and develop corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Conduct site audits and perform routine inspections as necessary.to comply with regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Perform or coordinate site IH testing.
  • Review new processes/materials, ECOs/TDAs, and site capital projects to determine appropriate safety measures.
  • Maintenance of ISO9001 and ISO14001 certifications with ability to lead effort to obtain ISO45001.
  • Support overall EHS & Facilities function.

  • Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.

Selected Specific Tasks:

  • Respiratory Protection Program for Billerica Mfg Site staff and Field Service personnel during painting (touch-up/otherwise) & sanding/deburring operations.
  • Crane, Hoist, & Lifting program for Billerica Mfg Site. Safety Engineer to obtain Crane/Hoist License.
  • Review Cargo Install & Field Service operations under both Construction & General Industry standards including providing required training -- Fork Truck/Manlift, Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, Mechanical /Machine Guarding, Electrical Safety.
  • Electrical Safety program for Manufacturing Operations across all sites including Lockout-Tagout
  • Laboratory Chemical Safety & Hygiene program for Laboratory Chemical Usage & Manufacturing at the Oak Ridge site.
  • Hearing Conservation program, including testing, for Hi-Speed Wheel operations.
  • Machine Guarding, Lead Hygiene, and Hot Work programs for Billerica site.
  • Accident Investigation documentation and follow-up with preventative actions across organization
  • Hazard Communication program across all sites including training & implementation for new online system/service for management of SDSs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science disciplines.
  • 5+ years' experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or safety environment
  • Understanding of OSHA regulations and NFPA guidelines
  • Proficient in using Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as possessing solid organizational skills.
  • Practices active listening skills and able to communicate openly & effectively.
  • Relates well to people at all levels in the organization and possesses a balanced sensitivity to safety, employee concerns, and business needs.
  • Able to function as a peer in a team environment to ensure timely delivery of results.
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Work is performed in a combination of office and manufacturing environments
  • Occasionally work may be performed outside with exposure to wet and/or humid outside weather in both hot and cold conditions.
    Travel within US: 25-30%
