Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
As the largest university-based local government training, advisory, and research organization in the United States, the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Government offers more than 200 courses, webinars, and specialized conferences for more than 12,000 public officials each year. Established as the Institute of Government in 1931, the School of Government's mission is to improve the lives of North Carolinians by engaging in practical scholarship that helps public officials understand and improve state and local government.

The School offers a nationally ranked Master of Public Administration program - on campus and online - to prepare public service leaders. The School is also home to entrepreneurial and innovative initiatives that research, advise, and train in areas including public leadership, judicial education, technology, environmental finance, and development finance, among others.
Position Summary
The School of Government hires part-time adjunct instructors with professional practice expertise to teach one or more online courses in our MPA program. Our online teaching model is structured such that a lead faculty member records the course content and develops the assignments. The adjunct instructor leads live sessions and is responsible for guiding students through the synchronous components of the course, providing an in-depth exploration of the material by incorporating their professional insights. Furthermore, the live session instructor is tasked with student communication, advising, and grading. Live sessions are conducted weekly for 90 minutes over a 14-week term.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
A masters in public administration or management, political science, public policy or related field
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
A minimum of 10 years professional work experience in direct practice, community practice, management, policy practice and/or research is in government is required.

Additionally, one to two years teaching experience in public policy, government, political science or law on either the graduate or undergraduate level is preferred.
