Patient Care Tech Apprentice

Position Highlights:

  • Hourly Pay Range: $16.08-$27.32. The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

What you will do:

Patient Care Techs are an integral part of the medical team and provide care to patients in a fast-paced, team-orientated environment. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) and, according to established procedures, performs patient care tasks and patient care procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients.

You're invited to apply to a Patient Care Technician (PCT) Apprenticeship program offered by Edward and Elmhurst Hospitals. This is a full-time, paid ($16.08/hour), and benefited position that entails classroom and training within the 40-hour work week. All tuition, training materials, and exam costs are covered.

What are the key expectations of program participants?

  • Complete the 4-week training program (2 weeks classroom instruction, 2 weeks hybrid (classroom/hands-on)

  • Commit to working an 8-hour day shift the first 5 weeks (minimum) of the program.

  • Regular and on-time attendance for all classes and working shifts.

  • Completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant exam within 2 weeks of completion of the training program.

  • Agree to accept a full-time PCT position at Edward or Elmhurst- day and night shifts available.

The PCT Apprenticeship program is a partnership between Edward and Elmhurst Hospitals and Valparaiso University that consists of a 4-week on-site certified nursing assistant program onsite at our Warrenville Corporate Center and hospital campuses. Participants will be paid during the entire training period. Upon completion of the course and passing the Certified Nursing Assistant exam, participants will be promoted to a PCT role (with a higher salary) at either Edward Hospital or Elmhurst Hospital.
