Position Overview
Position Summary |
This is a Grounds position that maintains the campus landscape and beautification. The position includes but is not limited to, mowing, pruning, weeding, planting, trash and recycle pick up, moving and hauling and event preparation.
THIS POSITION IS BEING RECRUITED AT THE CONTRIBUTING LEVEL.
Knowledge-Technical
General knowledge of the landscape trade and skills in the use of equipment and tools of the trade. Working knowledge of the cultivation, pruning, spraying, and trimming requirements of shrubs and trees. Ability to make minor repairs to lawnmowers, hose, rakes, pruners and sprayers. Ability to move relatively heavy objects and to work at heavy manual tasks for considerable periods of time.
Mows and trims lawns and shrubberies to a height using hand and power trimmers, and performs other grounds keeping tasks as requested. Performs skilled work in the planting, cultivation, and care of shrubs, trees, plants, and grass. Responsible for maintaining grounds and shrubs in good condition. Recognizes grounds maintenance needs and communicates to lead person or supervisor.
Plant shrubs, flowers, grass and trees as appropriate to enhance the campus landscape. Water flowers and plants as required. Remove leaves, paper and other debris from the campus landscape, walks, and drives. Remove snow and ice from campus walks, drives and streets as required.
Perform moving and hauling and special set-up functions as required. Patch campus roads and drives when instructed.
Perform trash and recycle pick up as required.
Computer Skills: Must have sufficient computer skills to enter time worked online.
Client/Customer Service Listens and responds to customer and direct reports needs promptly and respectfully.
Interpersonal Skills Communicates with fellow workers in a manner that allows work to be completed.

Listens to instructions and asks questions to ensure tasks are completed correctly. Able to effectively communicate to convey messages and understand directives. |
Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Building and Environmental Services unit provides services in the areas of housekeeping, landscape, recycle, trash/sanitation and moving and hauling.
This specific position is in the Grounds section of
BES and provides landscape services, moving/hauling and some event set-up services. |
