ONLY CURRENT DUNWOODY STUDENT MAY APPLY

Position Title: VA Work Study Student

Approximate Hours per Week: 18- 25

Wage: $15.97

Primary Duties:



  • Assist students who use the Veteran and Military Center and with general inquiries about veteran education benefits via phone, email, and in person
  • Staff and maintain the Veteran and Military Center during posted hours
  • Coordinate trainings and workshops for our Veteran and active Military students
  • Post and help create fliers for Veteran and active Military student activities on campus
  • Coordinate communication to all Veteran and active Military students
  • Work at open houses, orientations and student events as designated Veteran and active Military point of contact
  • Collect, compile, and track Veteran and Military Center usage and adjust hours based on student needs
  • Serve as a mentor while providing support for new and continuing students receiving veteran educational benefits
  • Assist, update, and maintain accurate information on the Dunwoody College of Technology Veteran and Military Student website
  • General office duties as it relates to supporting our students receiving veteran educational benefits

Qualifications

  • Excellent communications skills and customer service skills with the ability to motivate others and encourage participation
  • High cultural competency and respect/sensitivity to all students, colleagues and visitors
  • Basic understanding of VA education benefits and a working familiarity with the offices of Dunwoody College of Technology and their responsibilities
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and frequently changing environment
  • Willingness and ability to follow confidentially guidelines
  • Strong self-direction, motivation, and initiative
  • Computer skills, primarily Microsoft Office Suite
  • Work Study Eligible through the Veteran Affairs Work Study Program:
  • At least to full time student enrollment
  • Receiving Veteran benefits under these programs:

    • Post-9/11 GI Bill--(38 U.S.C. Chapter 33) (Veterans and transfer-of-entitlement recipients)
    • Montgomery GI Bill--Active Duty (38 U.S.C. Chapter 30)
