How you will help us create value together:

As anElectrical Engineering Intern, you will be responsible for a range of support activities for the Shovels Product Development team. This team's focus is to design industry-leading drill products for Komatsu's Surface Mining division.

This position will be based onsite at our South Harbor location in Milwaukee's Harbor District. The target start date for this role is Summer 2025 and has potential to be extended into the Fall 2025 school semester. We offer full-time hours during the summer and flexible part-time hours during the academic year.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Develop CAD and programming skills (electrical schematics, panel layouts, control software)
  • Participate in the generation of design specifications Utilize presentation skills
  • Apply engineering analysis knowledge and tools for design
  • Build team interaction/collaboration skills
  • Cross-functional collaboration (purchasing, manufacturing, quality assurance, etc.)
  • Involvement with new product development processes

Basic Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor's level degree in Electrical Engineering (Other Engineering majors may be considered)
  • Hold a rising Junior or Senior level in good academic standing, Sophomore standing may be considered
  • Ability to work independently as well a part of a team towards a goal
  • Excellent organization and personal time management skills; able to handle multiple tasks
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Possess effective problem solving and critical thinking skills, able to be creative and resourceful when needed
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship experience, or hands-on experience in trade work (mechanical repair, electrical work, machine shop work, etc.)
  • Basic experience with a CAD tool (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ProE, Inventor, etc.) with SolidWorks preferred
  • Basic experience with programming software (Visual Basic, C++, LabVIEW, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Machine fundamentals (performance, geometry, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience with AC and DC motor fundamentals, tuning closed-loop control systems, remote I/O, fieldbus networks, power distribution design, hydraulic system controls, and system commissioning would be preferred, but not required
  • Proof of mechanical aptitude and interest based on previous proven skills and experience (STEM program, robotics, home projects)
