Senior Piping Designer

Purpose of the Role
As a Senior Piping Designer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of engineering projects by maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the project scope, schedule, deliverables, milestones, and industry standards. You will apply your expertise in piping design to contribute to high-quality project outcomes while adhering to applicable codes and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

* Determine line count and estimated isometric quantities based on P&ID's.

* Maintain knowledge of client procedures, project procedures, and specifications.

* Identify and request necessary information to maintain project schedules through a 'Needs List.'

* Provide design sketches and technical guidance for drawing/model preparation by work share teams or less experienced designers and CAD technicians.

* Schedule, review, and resolve 3D model interferences and clashes.

* Check and ensure technical quality, accuracy, and compliance of work assigned to work share teams or less experienced designers and CAD technicians.

* Utilize 3D model review software (AVEVA E3D/Navisworks) to monitor design quality and progress.

* Review and approve deliverables before release.

* Coordinate design efforts across engineering and design disciplines.

* Conduct internal and client design reviews.

* Ensure adherence to deliverable verification procedures.

* Develop piping models, pipe supports, equipment models, and extract isometric and orthographic drawings using AVEVA 3D.

* Create general arrangement layouts for plant facilities, structures, and equipment, ensuring safe maintenance and construction practices.

* Conduct field investigation trips, perform field walkdowns using P&ID's, identify tie points dimensionally, and route piping through existing facilities.

* Integrate field data into AVEVA E3D models.

* Work with laser scanning technology within AVEVA E3D where applicable.

* Execute designs within existing facilities while addressing obstructions and constraints.

Qualifications / Skillset:

Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications:

* Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in piping design.

* Strong understanding of engineering and design/drafting principles, with a general understanding of interdisciplinary roles in the design process.

* Ability to communicate and resolve routine technical issues effectively.

* Proficiency in advanced PC applications, 2D CAD, and 3D CAD tools.

* Experience with Scans within AVEVA E3D is a plus.

* Ability to perform advanced design tasks and effectively use design tools while providing technical direction and training.

* Piping drawing checking and verification experience, both in-office and in the field, is an advantage.

* Strong organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities effectively.

* Commitment to customer service and ability to provide support in problem-solving.

* Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

* Willingness to travel or accept field assignments is preferred.

* Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.

* Extensive experience in piping and layout design for power generation and industrial facilities is required; experience in chemical facilities is a plus.

* At least 2 years of AVEVA E3D experience.

* Experience with Microstation V8i and AutoCAD.

* Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

* Minimum of 5 years of experience using AVEVA E3D for 3D model design review.

Education, Accreditation, and Training:

* Required: Two or three-year technical diploma with piping design-specific training or an Associate's degree.

* Preferred: An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Colorado Applicants:



  • Pay: $49.60/hr. - $72.94/hr. commensurate with experience.
  • Benefits: eligible for PTO, 401k, medical, vision, dental, etc.
