Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Technician I in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) works as part of a multidisciplinary team and will be responsible for a range of activities detailed below.

The incumbent works as part of a multidisciplinary team and will be responsible for a range of activities including but not limited to:

  • Isolation and analysis of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from patient blood samples using microfluidic technologies.
  • Molecular analysis of CTCs, tumors, and normal tissue samples using molecular biology and cellular biology techniques including RNA in situ hybridization, qPCR, droplet digital PCR, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, and next-generation sequencing.
  • Perform standard molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid purification, PCR, cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, and plasmid construction.
  • Perform standard tissue culture and cell biology techniques including cell line maintenance, drug treatments, plasmid transfection, Western blotting, cell viability assays, and immunofluorescence microscopy.
  • Perform bioinformatic analyses including differential gene expression profiling and genomic mutational landscape analysis of tumors.
  • Order common laboratory reagents and general laboratory supplies.
  • Participate in upkeep of the lab and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Organize and accurately maintain written records of experimental procedures and data collection.
  • Participate in weekly lab meetings.
  • Assist in preparation of manuscripts resulting from data generated in research projects.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Laboratory research techniques (training will be provided)
  • Attention to details in experimental techniques and record keeping
  • Facility with computer software for data analysis
  • Excellent organizational skills, working well under pressure
  • Multi-tasking
