Summary

The Financial Planning and Analysis Manager (FP&A) serves as the trusted business advisor to the Corporate Department leaders and their direct reports while also being the administrative process owner for the division to ensure that results are both accurate and credible. This role will also ensure that company assets are protected and financial resources are optimally deployed. In addition, the role will be integral to continuous improvement projects for the business. This role supports management in establishing and achieving business objectives, developing action plans to support the objectives and by forecasting results based on the performance of, and changes to, these action plans and by preparing the annual budget and periodic forecasts in concert with management. Additionally this role serves to identify operational drivers that impact results by analyzing data and converting it into meaningful KPI's and actionable business intelligence and making recommendations to support their continuous improvement.

The FP&A role is the bridge between operations and sources of capital serving to link these two critical areas. They must use their "voice" on understanding the details of the business and to help drive the business to its highest performance.

Essential Functions

Business Advisory Services

• Evaluates alternative uses of capital to ensure that projects are expected to return in excess of weighted average cost of capital and/or are supported by a sound business case. This includes modeling for rental fleet additions and learning from "wash out" analysis.
• Calculates KPI's (operational and financial), prepares performance dashboards, interprets and presents results and assists in developing plans to address high priority opportunities.
• Meets regularly to review monthly financial performance with region and branch management, identifies trends and offers advice (e.g. changing vendors, plans, etc.) to mitigate or control costs.
• Assists management in modelling alternative pricing scenarios and their operational and financial impact.
• Proactively advises management of customer financing alternatives, their cost/benefit to the division overall and their impact on division financial resources and key financial metrics (PBT, ROA, etc.).
• Identifies, at the direction and with the assistance of management, employees who need additional training (process and/or financial), provides coaching on financial matters, and coordinates process training with Product Support so that all employees have the opportunity to perform at their highest level. Leads effort to develop greater financial acumen in business.
• Partners with division and functional managers to profitably grow their business and meet their strategic goals.
• Assists in change management, supports the leaders in driving key business initiatives down into the organization with the goal of continuous improvement.

Financial / Compliance

• Ensures that internal controls are in place, functioning properly and sufficient to protect company assets and the credibility of the financial results.
• Assists management in the annual budget process and ensures budget templates are accurately populated.
• Prepares periodic forecasts for region and company near-term planning purposes.
• Participates in the month- and year-end close process by reviewing branch / region financial statements noting anomalies for research and correction and identifies missing expenses requiring an accrual.
• Provides analysis of monthly budget variances and identifies those that will be ongoing or changes to expense run-rates.
• Performs ad hoc analysis and projects as requested by leadership.

Process Improvement

• Works with operations to identify cumbersome (to the business) processes, assesses whether existing process alleviates other functional issues and/or is net beneficial across multiple functions.
• Assists in the implementation of new processes, works with training staff to document and train impacted individuals, and monitors acceptance / performance of these new processes.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university required, MBA a plus.
• Minimum 6 years total experience in accounting/finance roles, of which 3 yrs minimum are in FP&A as a leader.
• Experience working with a larger company that has multiple divisions (private or public) is required.
• Prior experience with managing a staff, with demonstrated team building and a mentoring leadership style.
• Demonstrated champion of process improvement, preferably with processes/approaches used in lean manufacturing.
• FP&A experience must include designing and building complex financial models to enable robust detailed forecasting & annual budgeting modeling, capex modeling and financial statement analytics.
• Demonstrated project management skills that include cross functional initiatives.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Advanced business and/or financial certifications a plus (e.g. CPA, CMA, CIA, CGMA, CPM, etc.)

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, markups, interest, commissions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to identify cause-effect relationships and interrelated business activities. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
