Armstrong World Industries, Inc., has a job opportunity for a Process Engineer to be located at our plant in Newark, Ohio. Under the direction of the Technical Services Manager, the Process Engineer will be responsible for providing focused technical support and leadership to the operations located in Newark, OH.

What will you do?

  • Leading process optimization, root cause analysis and driving scientific and engineering principles into a rapidly changing industrial manufacturing facility
  • Planning and conducting factory tests to follow through on any of the preceding activities
  • Writing test plans, observing test runs, directing experimental process adjustments during tests, evaluating test results, writing reports, and recommending and initiating subsequent action to be taken
  • Working with production operators, production leaders and other technical support staff in hands-on troubleshooting of technical problems
  • Serving as project leader, manager, and 'doer' of medium to large scope projects including cost reduction, quality improvements, new product development, energy utilization, and process improvement
  • Investigating improvement opportunities and initiating critical manufacturing process improvement projects
  • Driving root cause resolution of customer complaints for any product quality issues, implement corrective actions with production teams
  • Implementing product quality improvements, by completing root cause analysis leveraging scientific and engineering principles
  • Creating and maintaining data collection systems
  • Continually expand product and supplier relationships in an effort to gain sustainable competitive advantage
  • Monitoring daily operations to find improvement opportunities

What will make you successful?

  • Self-starter with a strong ability to multi-task and juggle multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to work in an industrial environment (i.e. Ability to wear required PPE, work in a dusty, hot, non-climate controlled environment; with stairs, frequent walking, standing and occasional lifting of material)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science or related technical discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering preferred
  • 0-2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

What will make you stand out?

  • 3+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with Power BI
  • Experience using SAP
  • Experience in VBA code, writing and troubleshooting
  • Statistical analysis program experience such as Minitab
  • Previous experience with the application of Six Sigma, DMAIC and/or Lean methodologies
  • Customer interaction experience including customer visits, customer complaints, claims management, etc.
  • Experience operatinga Quality Management System (i.e ISO 9000)

About the location (Newark OH)

Tectum, Inc., a subsidiary of Armstrong World Industries, Inc. (AWI), is one of twenty Armstrong plants in North America. Our Tectum manufacturing plant employs manypeople across 2 shifts who are involved in the manufacturing and shipping of our Tectum product. With over 60 years of innovation and experience in reducing noise worldwide, our Tectum plant has the right product for your noise problem.

This position is located in beautiful and historical Newark, Ohio, the county seat of Licking County, 40 miles northeast of Columbus. We also have another location in nearby Hebron. Licking County has lots to offer. We have an abundance of parks including Newark Earthworks, the National Historic Landmark where visitors can explore 2,000-year-old geometric earthworks that served as both cathedral and astronomical observatories for the Hopewell Culture.
