Job Description

The Asset Based Lending Underwriter III is primarily responsible for the originations underwriting of new ABL client relationships (including the most complex transactions) to guide the approval process and ensure proper structuring, documentation, booking and funding. This role takes ownership of the new client process once a prospect has accepted an ABL proposal.

How You'll Spend Your Time
  • You will conduct in-person meetings with prospects before and after closing.
  • You will select and manage third-party firms for due diligence and review their reports.
  • You will coordinate with LCS staff for background checks and Know-Your-Customer processes.
  • You will perform general collateral due diligence, analyze trends, and establish borrowing base availability.
  • You will conduct financial due diligence, analyze trends, investigate prior results, and evaluate projections.
  • You will study industry analysis, identify external drivers, and review ties to commodity supply/demand/pricing effects.
Education & Experience Requirements

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of commercial or ABL relationship management, collateral exam and/or credit underwriting experience.

  • Strong credit and underwriting knowledge, particularly relating to collateral backed lending using working capital assets (accounts receivable, inventory and machinery/equipment)
  • Strong accounting & macroeconomic knowledge, with demonstrated knowledge of intermediate accounting theory and economic drivers affecting portfolio clients
  • Succinctly identify the drivers and/or potential threats to recovery in liquation and structuring in order to mitigate that risk, if possible
  • Working knowledge of alternative debit and equity providers available to our clients
  • Experience working with large, broadly syndicated loans as agent or participant
  • Working knowledge of rules, regulations and documentation
  • Leverage a network of relationships with clients, Relationship Managers, and peers for support in achieving both the individual and organizational goals
  • Knowledge and understanding of credit principles, lending functions, loan analysis, and application of general credit policies
  • Strong organizational skills and thorough work habits
  • Strong critical review skills focused on errors and incorrect conclusions
  • Ability to complete assignments quickly and efficiently with minimal direction
  • Proactive communication skills (internally with colleagues and senior personnel and externally)
  • Excellent conflict management skills
  • Possess the courage and confidence to have difficult conversations or voice differing opinions (both internally and externally)
  • Ability to work efficiently under limited timeframes
  • Knowledge of loan documentation, loan policy and regulations and knowledge of the Loan Grading Process
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Advanced PC and spreadsheet software skills
