Summary:

The registered nurse is a 10 month professional position. It provides patient care based on standards of professional nursing practice. Possesses knowledge of universal precautions and infection control techniques.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides inpatient, outpatient, and emergent care:
  • Collect and document health status data through means of an interview, physical assessment, observation, and record review.
  • Assess of psychosocial, emotional, cultural, environmental, and behavioral factors when indicated.
  • Implement nursing intervention based Patient Care Guidelines established by the Medical Director.
  • Instruct and/or teach patients about their health issues and treatment plan.
  • Evaluate patient response to treatment plan.
  • Initiate physician or nurse practitioner referrals as needed.
  • Administer care as ordered by the Infirmary physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant or the patient's primary care Physician.
  • Document all nursing intervention and communications relative to patient care in the electronic medical record.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and departmental information.
  • Promotes Infirmary services:
  • Assume responsibility for ongoing maintenance of an overall safe, hospitable, and therapeutic environment.
  • Participate in departmental task requirements.
  • Assist with orientation of staff members as outlined by the Medical Director or the Director of Nursing.
  • Attend staff meeting and supporting and promoting quality assurance activities.
  • Recognize own professional strengths and weaknesses, and willing to resolve limitations.
  • Assuming responsibility for shift coverage when extenuating circumstances arise.
  • Maintain neat and professional appearance.
  • Pursue professional growth on an ongoing basis.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as requested

  • Plans and manages own work
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Two years of clinical nursing experience, preferably hospital-based, with an emphasis on pediatric/adolescent care.
  • Valid State of New Jersey registered nurse license
  • CPR certification
  • AED certification
  • Knowledge of universal precautions and infection control techniques
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently, with limited support and minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple objectives, demands, and priorities. Ability to be flexible and multi-task.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills for interaction with all levels of the school and external community. Able to communicate clearly about patient's conditions.
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated team player with a desire and drive to learn and grow
  • Calm and unflappable, with a strong work and service ethic and positive outlook. Enthusiasm for education, our School community, teenagers and Lawrenceville's mission is essential.

  3. Required to, talk, hear, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  4. Required to work evenings, weekends and holidays in conjunction with School calendar and events.
  5. Must be able to lift up to 25lbs. without assistance.
  6. Ability to see with normal parameters.
  7. Operates in a professional work environment.
