DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) supports the University's mission by providing access to UC Santa Cruz, acting as fiscal stewards, and managing the sustainable planning, design, and operation of safe and equitable bicycle/pedestrian programs, transit services, parking, and other transportation-related needs. TAPS is dedicated to being innovative, sustainable, and customer-focused providers of access to UC Santa Cruz.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the TAPS Marketing & Communications Manager, the candidate supports the marketing and outreach efforts related to TAPS programs, including, but not limited to, campus transit, parking, biking, and other sustainable transportation programs. The candidate will act as the team lead for 3-4 student ambassadors when conducting in-person outreach on campus. The candidate will be responsible for creating content to populate TAPS social media channels, newsletter, and other marketing materials as well as assisting with management of TAPS social media channels and website.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary: $28.47/hourly.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES

35% - Content Creation & Management

  • Operate online publishing software (ex. Adobe Express, Canva) to design, layout, and produce social media posts and digital flyers for TAPS campaigns & programs.
  • Assist with review processes for projects.
  • Devise and manage video production projects for TAPS marketing and education campaigns, including script development, storyboarding, production, and post-production.
  • Coordinate within TAPS and with other divisions to recruit participants for videos.
  • Produce copy and other content for and work with the Marketing & Communications Manager to distribute TAPS' monthly newsletter.

35% - Outreach

  • Assist with implementing outreach strategies, including social media, print, and shuttle advertising, to promote sustainable transportation modes.
  • Perform duties as Commute Counselor for students and employees.
  • Coordinate and staff information booths at campus events to promote sustainable transportation. Make presentations to students, their families, and UCSC employees about TAPS services and programs.
  • Act as team lead for Slug Bike Life/Student outreach ambassadors.
  • Assist with coordinating student peer-to-peer outreach programs.
  • Operate a university owned vehicle to complete job duties.

30% - Marketing & Communications

  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Manager to update the annual TAPS Marketing Calendar and execute the established schedule for marketing TAPS programs.
  • Provide daily support managing email lists and maintaining list integrity using an email management platform (MailChimp).
  • Assist with coordinating regular, public-facing outgoing communications as needed throughout the academic year.
  • Monitor campus and local media outlets.
  • Identify and notify management of any issues involving the website's content or technical aspects that pose problems and concerns.
  • Manage the TAPS Social Media calendar and devise, propose, and execute posts for social media platforms.
  • Design, prepare, and produce marketing collateral (e.g., stickers, bus passes).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience working in a marketing or creative environment (either agency or internal).
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier, and Express.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite, including Docs and Sheets.
  • Experience with other video production and editing programs & tools.
  • Knowledge of use and care of video and photography equipment.
  • Strong proofreading and copy-editing skills.
  • English proficiency and accurate typing skills.
  • Demonstrated clerical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly, and be flexible in a fast-paced setting.
  • Demonstrated history of being punctual for meetings, shifts, and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated hospitality, customer service, and interpersonal interaction skills.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to interact with individuals and communities of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience with facilitation of meetings/focus groups.
  • Experience leading in a team environment.
  • Experience with website Content Management Systems (i.e. WordPress, Cascade CMS, Drupal, etc.).
  • Experience using email marketing platforms (i.e. MailChimp, Constant Contact, Active Campaign, etc.)
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Familiarity with Asana

  • Must possess a valid license to drive in the state of California and be able to participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) pull notice program.
  • Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to safely perform the physical requirements necessary to move light to moderate objects up to 60 lbs., with or without accommodation.
  • The selected candidate will be required to work primarily on campus, with periods of remote work possible based on operational needs. If a hybrid work schedule is confirmed, the selected candidate must be able to work successfully from a home/remote office and be able to fulfill the requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
  • Ability to maintain appearance and conduct suitable for working in a professional setting.
