Position Purpose: The Chief Estimator is responsible for leading all estimating efforts and preparing cost estimates for Electrical Industrial/Commercial construction projects to aid management in bidding on or determining price. The Chief Estimator will strategically support and grow their estimating team to support IPC division objectives. Essential Responsibilities * Leads and manages the estimating team consisting of estimators and senior estimators. * Reviews proposal, contract terms/conditions, project specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of the estimate. * Assesses cost effectiveness of projects, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops * Consults with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments and construction team to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. * Understanding of internal estimating processes and procedures. * Confers with engineers, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates. * Reviews and incorporates historical data from past projects, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures. * Prepares estimates by calculating the complete takeoff of the scope of work. * Coordinates total estimating effort relevant to a particular bid/project. * Reviews all final estimate packages with personnel prior to formal quotation, to ensure accuracy and completeness. * Participates in bid strategy and presentation meetings. * Special projects and other duties as assigned Knowledge | Skills | Abilities * Strong ability to complete due diligence and risk assessment. * Impeccable integrity and ethics with internal and external stakeholders. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. * Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. * Ability to anticipate and meet internal/customer needs. * Ability to maintain confidentiality. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships. * Extensive knowledge of local, state and federal electrical codes. * Ability to travel to projects as needed. Qualifications * 10 years of experience in electrical estimating, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. * Experience with estimating software and tools: Bluebeam and Accubid. * Advanced knowledge of estimating techniques and ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems. * Proven experience individually bidding on projects valued above $25 million and leading and contributing to team efforts on projects exceeding $50 million. * Bachelor's degree or associate degree in a relevant field or a combination of relevant experience Work Environment * Must be able to remain in a stationary position over 50% of the time * Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, climbing * The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc * Occasionally needs to move around on job-site conditions to support pre-bid and post bid meetings and site evaluations. * Continuously operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, scanner, and computer printer * The person in this position frequently communicates with employees and coworkers and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations * Occasionally lifting 20 pounds |
