General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Physical Therapist Resident (Neurology) to join our Medstar National Rehabilitation Network (Medstar NRH) team!

The Neurologic Resident Physical Therapist is licensed in the District of Columbia and is accepted into the Neurologic Residency Training Program at Medstar National Rehabilitation Network (Medstar NRH). Provision of patient care is as assigned and supervised by the Medstar NRH mentor physical therapist. Patient care rotates through inpatient acute rehab at Medstar NRH, inpatient critical/acute care at Medstar Washington Hospital Center and outpatient at Medstar NRH. The Neurologic Resident physical therapist will advance their neurologic competency in physical therapy through patient care, assignments from their mentor, teaching students, patients, clinicians and other healthcare professionals, feedback from mentors and a scholarly project.

Primary Duties:

  • Provides effective and efficient evidence-based care, provides patient care duties as it relates to physical therapy following accreditation guidelines, licensing regulations, professional code of ethics, and standards of practice including evaluation/re-evaluation, treatment planning, DME (Durable Medical Equipment) recommendations and discharge planning.

  • Provides education and training to patients and their families/ caregivers, accesses appropriate additional information for individualized patient care, demonstrates sound clinical reasoning during patient care to maximize effective and safe outcomes and attends team conferences.

  • Completes accurate and timely documentation, maintains accurate and timely documentation to include clinical interventions provided, discharge and equipment recommendations, charges, and prescriptions and ensures documentation reflects need for acute rehab level of care to include patient/ family education, training, treatment intensity and duration.

  • Follows Medstar NRH documentation policy, writes legible, comprehensive conference reports, patient flowsheets, time off checklists and all other written documents in a timely manner and completes outcome data according to department guidelines.

  • Demonstrates effective time management and meets productivity expectations, meets established productivity targets, maintains accurate schedules for all patients and professional activities and is timely, punctual, and is prepared for work schedule and meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Graduate of an accredited school of Physical Therapy.

  • Physical Therapist licensure in the District of Columbia and Maryland.

  • AHA (American Heart Association) BLS (Basic Life Support).

  • Clinical experience in neurologic patient populations preferred.

This position has a hiring range of $72,758 - $130,041
