General Mills is seeking a Statistical Data Scientist to join the Data Science & Modeling team within the Innovation, Technology, and Quality (ITQ) function. The ITQ function is the center of science innovation, product development, and quality activities for the company.

In this role, you will be a key player on a team that is solving business problems in product development, consumer testing, nutrition research, and product quality within a data-rich science and engineering environment. You will have the opportunity to blend statistics, mathematics, modeling, and technology to transform data into actionable insights that drive business results.

We are looking for an exceptional statistical scientist who is passionate about engaging with our business partners and providing actionable, data-driven insights for decision making. This individual should also have a passion for teaching, and will serve as a trainer and coach for other statisticians across our global team.

You will join a successful, multi-talented, functional analytics team and collaborate with partners inside and outside General Mills to further the growth and impact of data science on our business. A successful candidate will have the right blend of technical skills, business acumen, influential storytelling, and collaborative spirit.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Work with teams to solve a wide range of problems using data. This includes an emphasis on product development, quality in manufacturing, nutrition science, consumer and market research, and other scientific domains of ITQ.
  • Provide excellent statistics consultation in experimental and study design and analysis to scientists and engineers with appropriate methodologies.
  • Train, mentor, and coach other statisticians in our global team on foundational technical skills and consultative excellence.
  • Translate and summarize complex analyses into actionable insights and recommendations that directly solve problems and influence business decisions.
  • Develop statistical and machine learning models with Python, R, or other languages and tools. You will have the opportunity to scale analytics solutions for big data using Google Cloud Platform, working with a wide range of open-source tools.
  • Build and deploy analytics solutions to internal stakeholders with local or cloud-based data pipelines that drive data-driven decision making across the organization

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics or relevant field
  • 3+ years of work experience in a statistical scientist or statistical analyst role or related position
  • Demonstrated ability to define problems and deliver solutions proactively against business or technical challenges.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to collaborate and build relationships in-person and virtually.
  • Teaching aptitude and strong coaching mindset.
  • Experience in using mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform data into advanced analytic solutions
  • Proficiency in SQL scripting languages, and experience with relational databases such as Big Query and Oracle.
  • Experience with a R and Python analytics programming languages and with source code repositories such as Git.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Work experience in nutrition, healthcare, or medical device applications
  • Experience working within a global team.
  • Familiarity with a cloud enterprise data and computing platform (GCP, AWS, Azure).
  • Experience working with in an R&D or scientific organization
  • Experience with food industry applications

  • International relocation or international remote working arrangements (outside of the US) will not be considered

Salary Range



The salary range for this position is $106800.00 - $178100.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
