HJF is seeking a Data Analyst III to provide analytic support to epidemiologists, biostatisticians and scientists and ensure data quality and data integrity.

This position will be in support of The Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research (CRSR), at Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Note: Due to security clearance requirements this position requires U.S. Citizenship.


Responsibilities

  • Develops data-driven solutions to complex military health problems by utilizing tools, statistical analysis software (e.g., SAS, R, Python), and computer programming to query, transform, and process complex datasets and real-world data into the appropriate format for statistical analysis. Actively communicates with PIs and scientists regarding data issues and provides potential solutions for remedy.
  • Plans, produces, and executes statistical analysis plans with biostatisticians, epidemiologists, and scientists to answer scientific questions. This includes producing predictive models from large datasets using biostatistical, epidemiological, and computer science methods and programming (e.g. machine learning and artificial intelligence).
  • Maintains awareness of ongoing processes and changes with real-world military datasets that could impact existing analyses and research.
  • Produces and readily explains written results, tables, and visualizations from analyses in support of research efforts.
  • Uses innovative methods to streamline data processes, including conducting code audits and actively training and mentoring data analysts.
  • Works with data managers to create data documentation and programming tools for data processes. Develops solutions for data collection, acquisition, storage, and analysis. This includes programming in data capture software (e.g. REDCap).
  • Tests data to identify data integrity issues, making recommendations and coordinating with the data manager to plan solutions
  • Troubleshoots problems concerning database records and communicate with co-workers and end users of the system. Makes recommendations and coordinates with the data manager to plan solutions.
  • Recommends operating methods to improve processing, distribution, data flow, collection and database editing procedures.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Required; Master's Degree Preferred
  • Minimum of 6-8 years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge and application of data cleansing and migration techniques are mandatory.
  • Demonstrated experience with cleaning and analysis of large datasets and complex statistical modeling.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of the SAS programming language, especially basic SAS procedures (CIMPORT, COMPARE, CONTENTS, CPORT, EXPORT, FORMAT, FREQ, IMPORT, MEANS or UNIVARIATE, PRINT, REPORT, SORT, SQL) and the DATA step and the ability to perform programming tasks in a SAS/Oracle environment. Use of SAS MACROS is a must.
  • Knowledge and understanding of other statistical software programs (R, Stata, Python) are a plus.
  • Ability to investigate data issues and participate in remediation activities.
  • Familiarity with medical claims data and ICD-9 and 10 coding.
  • The ability to obtain and/or maintain a T3 Secret Clearance.

Work Environment

  • Set in a remote work environment.

Compensation

  • The annual pay range for this position is $73,800-$100,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
