Civil Service Title- Assistant Mechanical Engineer

* IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE OF ASSISTANT MECHANICAL ENGINEER, OR BE REACHABLE ON THE OPEN-COMPETITIVE LIST, EXAM # 3109, OR THE PROMOTION LIST, EXAM #, WHICH WILL BE USED FIRST, OR ELIGIBLE UNDER THE 55-A PROGRAM. Serves as Assistant Mechanical Engineer in the Movable Bridges Group, assists the Engineer-In-Charge (EIC), Mechanical Engineer and unit Director in overseeing the performance of the CSS and PM/REI consultant contracts; reviews submittals for technical accuracy; monitors quality of construction and adherence to contract schedules; assists EIC and Mechanical Engineer in the resolution of construction problems that may arises during the design and construction phases of the project; coordinates the project's design, scope and construction activities according to design specifications; performs engineering calculations in support of design and construction work; performs administrative duties as requested by management such as: preparation of Certificate to Proceed (CP) estimates, Resident Engineer Inspection (REI) scopes and Pre-Solicitation Review (PSR) documents; audits and processes contract and consultant payments; prepares documentation for contract change order requests; assists in the coordination of inter-agency construction meetings as well as private owners and utilities; and performs other duties as requested by the EIC, Mechanical Engineer, or unit Director.

Preferred Skills
Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form. Proficient in Microsoft Excel / Word; Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology; or related field Knowledge and experience in Mechanical Engineering.

ASSISTANT MECHANICAL ENGINEER - 20410

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or mechatronics and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in mechanical engineering work; or

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in mechanical engineering technology and three years of full-time satisfactory experience in mechanical engineering work; or

3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a master's degree from an accredited college in mechanical engineering or mechatronics.

Preferred Skills
