SUMMARY

The Shipping Supervisor will be responsible for communicating, directing and coordinating the activities of the shipping department employees in order to ensure material is moved from packaging and sent out to the customer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Review production orders and schedules to obtain product data such as types, quantities and specifications and schedule delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
  • Maintain established daily fill rates and report metrics to management.
  • Ensure scheduled shipments are sent out on time and complete.
  • Oversee loading process of LTL and Ryder.
  • Develop and maintain departmental spreadsheets in order to track and analyze shipping metrics.
  • Review employee vacation and time off requests in order to ensure production needs are met.
  • Assign job duties to employees based upon departmental needs.
  • Coordinate pulling and shipping of finished goods at both plants.
  • Receive finished goods, store and maintain inventory.
  • Closely monitor emergency orders, special unitizing, new stores and new customers.
  • Follow up on returned material and customer complaints.
  • Review and complete production paperwork and submit in a timely manner.
  • Assist department with monthly physical inventory.
  • Communicate new and revised policies and procedures to employees in the shipping department.
  • Maintain operating supplies and monitor usage to eliminate waste.
  • Ensure shipping areas are kept clean.
  • Comply with established safety rules and conduct periodic safety checks in the department.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular attendance in accordance with company policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to the satisfaction of the distribution manager.

  • Lead the implementation and execution of the HSE program
  • Demonstrate personal commitment to HSE compliance by leading by example, being knowledgeable about safety policies/procedures, and understanding environmental permits and policies.
  • Share personal safety stories and lead shift safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Foster an environment of openness, trust, and mutual respect to enhance HSE performance.
  • Regularly communicate HSE policies and expectations, holding direct reports accountable.
  • Conduct frequent safety observations, identify and correct workplace hazards, and coach employees.
  • Ensure that working safely is a condition of employment.
  • Support and adhere to Westlake HSE initiatives such as Life Critical Rules, Safe Start, and the STAR program.
  • Facilitate safety training for employees.
  • Provide injury response and case management, and lead or participate in accident investigations.
  • Use formal corrective action and recognition to encourage desired behaviors.
  • Achieve site metrics by completing assigned HSE tasks and ensuring direct reports do the same.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Knowledge Education:

Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and one to two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of shipping/logistics experience and/or training, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred.

Skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word. Ability to work and manage employees in a fast paced, changing environment. Ability to perform basic algebraic and geometric functions including proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos.

Communication:

Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of employees in both written and verbal form. An ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees within the organization.
