Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Three (3) years of full-time experience in career coaching, student affairs, or training/learning and development.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience coaching/training professional staff. Experience supervising professional staff. Experience with college talent development, either on the higher education side or the corporate/employer side. Experience utilizing the administrative side of career services' management systems/corporate ATS systems. Experience working with college students. Experience assessing and evaluating outcomes of training and development. Experience managing/producing virtual meetings and events. Experience supporting access for marginalized individuals.

Brief Description of Duties:
A dynamic, innovative, and equity-minded individual will provide leadership to industry-focused career development strategy and services to students and alumni. Strong candidates are high- energy leaders with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, cultural humility, and a student-centered philosophy. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently and in teams.

Career Development Leadership



  • Sets strategy for industry aligned career development services that is responsive to student needs and aligned with departmental / institutional goals.
  • Supervises career coaches and select affinity groups.
  • Develops /leads training and professional development for CC staff.
  • Designs and deploys appropriate assessment activities to measure outcomes and impact.


Stakeholder Relations



  • Establishes and sustains positive working relationships with designated academic departments
  • Collaborates with corporate relations' teams to ensure that our programming is meeting the needs of hiring organizations.
  • Actively develops and maintains a welcoming and supportive environment for persons who identify with marginalized or non-majority populations.


Direct Client Service



  • Provide career coaching to students and alumni.


Professional Development and Committee Involvement



  • Participates in opportunities that promote their learning, growth, and development (i.e., classes, training, committees, webinars).
  • Contributes to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas within and outside the Office of Student Life (i.e., campus-wide traditions, events, and programs).
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
  • Evening and weekend work will be required at times.


Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

For this position, we are unable to sponsor candidates for work visas.

In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.

Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
