Reuters is seeking a U.S. Automotive Editor to lead reporters in producing scoops and deep enterprise coverage during an unprecedented period of global industry upheaval. Reporting to the Global Automotive Editor, this leader would manage a group of U.S.-based reporters, lead breaking news coverage and help conceive and elevate explanatoryand investigative stories from journalists worldwide. The role will be based in Reuters' Ann Arbor, Michigan office.

The ideal candidate would have experience covering the industry and demonstrated success leading reporting teams. Strong writing and line-editing skills are essential.

There's never been a more exciting time to cover cars, with Tesla's Elon Musk flaunting his newfound political power in a Donald Trump administration and newly dominant Chinese electric-vehicle makers expanding globally, posing existential threats to the world's biggest legacy car companies. We're seeking a dynamic managerand editor who can harness Reuters' extensive auto-coverage resources and collaborate with other global teams covering energy, mining, trade, regulation and politics to produce world-leading coverage.

About the Role

As U.S. Automotive Editor,you will:

  • Help lead the automotive news file with a focus on beat and source development, ensuring the coverage meets Reuters standards for accuracy, speed and impartiality
  • Conceive, pitch and edit ambitious enterprise journalism, directing extensive rewrites and factchecking when needed
  • Work closely with other editors and reporting teams to put Reuters ahead on priority coverage areas; a collaborative mindset is essential
  • Drive development and career progression across the U.S. team.

About You

You're a fit for the role of U.S. Automotive Editor,if your background includes:

  • At least 10 years of experience in journalism; experience covering the auto industry is preferred but not required
  • A track record of running reporting teams that develop sources and break news
  • Demonstrated success executing short and long-term explanatory and investigative coverage

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations.
For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $127,400 - $236,600.
This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
