Role Overview:

The Applications Scientist is an important conduit between scientific knowledge and practical application, supporting sales and marketing activities. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and resourceful individual, passionate about science with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Your responsibilities will encompass, but not limited to:



  1. Scientific Content Generation: Leading the development, management and oversight of application method development within our labs as well as collaborating customers and KOLs to develop methods suitable for clinical, forensics and doping customer applications utilizing Biotage products, in alignment with marketing initiatives.
  2. Crafting Scientific documentation: (application notes, white papers, blogs) to support sales, marketing, and customer engagement.
  3. Ensuring customer success through application support and training, troubleshooting and product demonstrations.
  4. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Contributing to the development of Applications for Biotage products in line with marketing priorities.
  5. Cross-functional collaborations with the R&D team to influence development of new products that meet customer needs.
  6. Managing collaborations as assigned by market segment managers with customers.
  7. Company representation and Market insights: Demonstrating keen business acumen, gathering market-intelligence to guide product and application development.
  8. Showcasing technical expertise by delivering engaging presentations, leading training sessions, and facilitating interactive workshops for Biotage at Scientific meetings and tradeshows and within internal teams.
  9. Leveraging scientific expertise and product knowledge to inform and aid Biotage Marketing teams develop effective marketing strategies and product positioning.
  10. Training and Communication: Developing and executing impactful training sessions for customers, collaborators and sales teams demonstrating best practices and effective techniques utilizing Biotage systems and consumables.
  11. Collaborating closely with peers and colleagues to share insights gained from application development and research, providing actionable recommendations for the use of Biotage products in new markets and application areas.

Scope of Responsibility:

Lead and conduct well-designed experiments, analyze data, and provide invaluable technical insights for specific applications using Biotage products. Leverage technical expertise to support customers, marketing and sales teams leveraging through the development and execution of comprehensive training programs. Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, effectively troubleshooting technical issues and providing robust solutions. Showcase technical proficiency by delivering engaging scientific content through posters or presentations and customer conversations at tradeshows. Execute and complete assigned projects on time. Manage collaborations internally (with marketing, sales and project teams) and externally (with customers and collaborators) as needed. Prioritize and maintain applications roadmap based on market needs.

Tasks and Responsibilities:



  • Take the lead in executing laboratory projects, focusing on the development and optimization of analytical sample prep methods for complex matrices. Generate data to assess and showcase the suitability of Biotage products for customer workflows, ensuring alignment with marketing strategies.
  • Author scientific documents, including application notes, white papers, posters, blogs, operating procedures, and slide decks. Ensure the content is clear, concise, and logically structured, adhering to Biotage guidelines.
  • Develop and oversee collaborations with KOLs and crucial customer.
  • Develop and execute end-user training programs in line with market needs.
  • Represent Biotage at scientific conferences and tradeshows, delivering scientific presentations, and addressing technical questions. Gather market-related scientific information and compile reports to aid in the development of marketing strategies and application development.
  • Contribute to regional and corporate marketing efforts, as well as Innovation & Development initiatives. Assess potential products and provide insights for the development of new products.Offer expert consultation, technical assistance, and training to customers, field sales reps, and internal stakeholders encompassing product knowledge, application guidance, operational advice and troubleshooting solutions as required, both in-person and virtually.
  • Accompany local sales representatives, or travel independently, to customer sites for product evaluations, and implementation of Biotage solutions. Support service and inside sales representatives, as needed for during events and demos.
  • Oversee and manage day-to-day laboratory operations.
  • Record all business-related activities in Saleforce.com

  • Excellent skills in record-keeping and documentation. Must demonstrate strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.


Qualifications and Training:



  • Must have a Ph.D. degree in analytical chemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in analysis of analytes in biological fluids with 2+ years of experience working with the analysis of large molecules such as oligos, biomolecules and peptides in biofluids by LC/MS/MS
  • Hands-on experience and practical knowledge of sample preparation for complex matrices such as biofluids, tissues, and food materials.
  • Working knowledge of Bioanalytical, CRO, Clinical or Forensic testing workflows and experience with laboratory automation is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with management of technical projects and lab personnel is preferred.
  • Travel - 25-50 % visits to customer sites, other Biotage offices, and tradeshows as required in the business.
