Job Summary:

The Office of Informatics and Information Technology (IIT) is looking for an outstanding candidate for a Data Engineer II position to manage and fulfill research data requests from principal investigators (PIs) in the Division of Transplantation in the Department of Surgery and other departments that use transplant clinical data for research projects. Databases the incumbent will use include the Transplant DataMart and STAR files from Organ Procurement and Transplant Network (OPTN) and databases from the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR). The data engineer will lead monthly meetings with key stakeholders, triage data requests, pull data, and collaborate with other data teams, including the Statistical Analysis and Research Programming (STARP) team in the Department of Surgery. While working as part of the Clinical Research Data Service Team in IIT, the incumbent will have a close working relationship with the Chair of the Division of Transplantation. The successful candidate will have a solid work ethic and bring an enthusiastic and professional attitude to the workplace.


Responsibilities:
Contributes to a research agenda set by a lead researcher by creating automated processes for preparing and analyzing data at scale. Plays a leadership role and may lead a team and/or personnel.

  • 30% Prepares data sets for current and future analysis including cleaning/quality assurance, transformations, restructuring, and integration of multiple data sources and may use technologies that support data at scale
  • 15% Implements data analysis steps in collaboration with data scientists, statisticians, and/or other researchers and may use technologies that support data at scale
  • 15% Organizes both data preparation and analysis steps into reproducible pipelines that can process similar data sets automatically
  • 5% Selects appropriate technologies and optimizes pipelines for performance
  • 20% Develops, constructs, tests, and maintains architectures for large-scale data management and analysis
  • 15% Serves as an institutional subject matter expert and liaison to key internal and external stakeholders regarding automated data management and analysis at scale for research and represents the interests of large-scale data management and analysis for research

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:
- Experience writing SQL code to extract and manipulate data from large relational databases
- Experience writing Python code to manipulate and analyze datasets
- Experience developing analytics dashboards
- Strong organizational, analytical, verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills

Preferred:
- Certified in Epic Cogito Clinical Data Model
- Experience working with Transplant Data and workflows
- Experience with OPTN Organ Procurement and Transplant Network (OPTN) Data
- Experience Designing, Building & Maintaining Databases
- Experience with clinical vocabularies (ICD, LOINC, SNOMED, CPT, etc.)
- Experience with clinical research common data models (OMOP, i2b2, PCORNet)
- Experience working with web APIs
- Experience with FHIR and HL7 data feeds
- Knowledge of HIPAA and other regulations governing PHI
- Experience reviewing other team member's technical work and providing constructive feedback


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location. An on campus work location will be provided should a candidate prefer to work onsite.
