JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Campus Recreation is looking for an experienced and dynamic person to join our team. Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Campus Recreation, the Assistant Director of Student Development is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the department-wide student development and training program.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement a department-wide student development and training program to include elements of safety/risk management, operations, program, and facility-specific information, customer service, and NACE competencies.

  • Serve as chair of the Campus Recreation's Student Development Work Group.

  • Work with the Student Development Work Group to provide ongoing student development sessions throughout the year.

  • Provide students with opportunities to obtain leadership experience through direct participation in the management of training programs.

  • Assist full-time staff in developing in-service training specific to risk management and emergency action plans.

  • Create, implement, and oversee a comprehensive part-time staff safety audit program.

  • Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student employees including audit team members.

Position Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree or higher, plus three years of student development experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • A master's degree in recreation, sports management, higher education, or a related field is preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in student development is preferred.

  • Knowledge of safety and risk management practices as they relate to collegiate recreation is preferred.

  • A working knowledge of software systems such as Fusion and WhenToWork, or similar, is preferred.

  • Current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Trainer certification is preferred.

  • This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

  • Eagerness to support and engage with all departmental and Student Affairs initiatives and efforts, including collaborations with campus partners to create meaningful student experiences.

  • Ability to take initiative and have the flexibility to adapt to shifting workload demands.

  • Ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of staff, student employees, and participants.

Campus Recreation is a department within the division of Student Affairs that provides recreation and wellness programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: IM Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Recreation Area, Tennis Center, White Building, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, Intramural Sports, and Outdoor Adventures. Campus Recreation is comprised of 46 full-time staff and more than 600 student staff members.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$42,100.00 - $61,000.00
