Job Duties
- Handle and process specimens according to departmental protocols.
- Perform the following duties: specimen management (receive specimens from phlebotomists and nursing floors); specimen accession into LIS; prepare specimens for testing; basic technical tasks (placing samples in automated analyzer, streak culture plates, etc.); submit specimens to testing department; store and manage specimens according to retention protocols.
- Maintain accurate and easy-to-use specimen storage systems. Monitor and maintain accurate patient identification and confidentiality for all samples in accordance with departmental protocol.
- Ensure specimens sent to reference laboratories are submitted to referral department in a timely manner.
- Answer telephone inquiries and provide verified test result information per the LIS system.
- Establish priorities and organize activities to achieve optimum and efficient results. Complete assigned functions in appropriate time intervals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
