Description

In this role, you will work collaboratively with our breast surgery team, to provide care for patients with breast cancer as well as other non-cancerous breast disease. As a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA), you will be entrusted with evaluating and treating selected patients within this service area. This will include new patients and follow-up patients. Your responsibilities will encompass physical examinations, direct patient interactions (both in-person and through electronic means). Flexibility is vital, as all NP's/PA's may be required to cover nearby clinical sites to ensure comprehensive patient support. You may also be involved with quality improvement, research, and educational activities.

Job Responsibilities:



  • Takes histories and performs physical examinations.
  • Initiates, documents, and communicates the plan of care and follows up to ensure complete screening and preparation of patients.
  • Writes orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests.
  • Interprets laboratory and test results.
  • Confers with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and/or other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care.
  • This is mostly an outpatient position. But there may be rare occasion for inpatient care, such as round, discharge planning, discharge summaries, and prescriptions.


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT:
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Graduate of an accredited (Accreditation Review Committee for Physician Assistant Programs ARC-PA) program. Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant (PA) by the New York State Department of Education. Current NCCPA Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).Current BLS certification.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - NURSE PRACTITIONER:
Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) by the New York State Department of Education. Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Nursing and graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. National Practitioner Certification issued by the National Certification Corporation (NCC), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the Nurse Practitioner Certification Board (AANPCB). Current BLS certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with breast exams, or other types of breast experience. Breast surgery experience (at least 2 years).
