About the Role
As an Apprentice Power Generation Technician, you will:
- Perform field inspections of generators under supervision, conducting diagnostic tests to assess equipment condition.
- Assist in troubleshooting and repairing electrical and mechanical issues, including AC/DC controls, engine controllers, voltage regulators, battery chargers, block heaters, automatic transfer switches, and switchgear.
- Support load bank testing, learning how to calculate KW for accurate performance verification.
- Assist in diagnosing and repairing diesel and gaseous engines, gaining hands-on experience.
- Perform tune-ups and basic repairs under the guidance of senior technicians.
- Learn to conduct up-fit modifications on new power generation equipment.
- Help test batteries, inspect, and repair charging systems.
- Maintain detailed service and repair records, learning proper documentation practices.
- Follow safety protocols and keep company tools and equipment in proper working condition.
What You Bring
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's degree (AA) in a related technical field preferred but not required.
- Some experience or training in mechanical/electrical systems is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Basic knowledge of AC (110-690 VAC) and DC system fundamentals.
- Understanding of generators, diesel/gas engines, controls, and switchgear (or willingness to learn).
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, motors, and transformers (or willingness to learn).
- Comfortable using diagnostic software and tools (training provided).
- Ability to follow safety procedures and work safely around electrical components.
Other Requirements
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, typing, etc.).
- Own and maintain a tool inventory (or willingness to build one over time).
- Valid driver's license and insurability under company policy.
- Willingness to work toward an electrical license for technicians.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive Pay: $21.00 - $34.00 per hour (based on skills, experience, and training).
