Synchron has an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing/Production Support Engineer to provide submarine construction and acquisition program support to the U.S. Navy Team Submarine organization at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC. You will be directly supporting the U.S. Navy's PMS 397 Program Office. PMS 397 oversees the design, construction, and delivery of the COLUMBIA Class Ballistic Missile Submarine (SSBN). You will assist Team Sub in the design and production of this new class of submarines and support the Navy's future undersea warfare programs and systems.

Responsibilities:




  • Develop data driven processes and standards for measuring KPI's and capacity planning.





  • Evaluate existing design of hardware and recommend changes to enhance the manufacturability and profitability of an order.





  • Collaborate with maintenance, supply chain, and finance to develop strategic plans for operations, and develop manufacturing plans to achieve capacity increases to meet the plan.





  • Execute cost savings plan to complete initiatives and achieve annual cost savings goals.





  • valuate existing design of hardware and recommend changes to enhance the manufacturability and profitability of an order.





  • Review contract requirements and lead in the development of a manufacturability plan.





  • Prepare and/or coordinate the completion of the required software, e.g. manufacturing and inspection outlines, manufacturing procedures, bill of materials, drawings, tool requests, regular and repair routings, etc., to support manufacturing schedules.





  • Assist in providing technical support to manufacturing in areas of problem resolution, planning modifications, and process enhancements.





  • Prepare and maintain the documentation needed by the project group.





  • Manage a project so that it remains on budget, on schedule, and meets the required quality level.





  • Interface with quality engineering and weld engineering to ensure that manufacturing procedures and work instructions have been prepared and ensuring that contract requirements have been met.





  • Interface with manufacturing engineering specialists to coordinate, review, and approve the detailed work instructions to ensure that they are concise and understandable.





  • Interface with quality methods personnel to incorporate the Navy Data Environment plan and associated procedures and inspection techniques in the work instructions to ensure contract compliance.





  • Interface with design engineering to identify major tool requirements, recommend cost effective modifications, and to ensure that drawings are understood by manufacturing personnel and are in compliance with contract requirements.





  • Interface with purchasing personnel to provide a bill of material and to coordinate material need dates to support the manufacturing plan.





  • Interface with manufacturing personnel to provide adequate guidance and support for component processing, thus ensuring a smooth manufacturing flow. Provide technical support to resolve problems and to provide process enhancements.





  • Interface with production control personnel to provide the software that is responsive to production needs. This software should be provided 30 days prior to need date.





  • Interface with contract administrative personnel to provide the technical support in correspondence with the customer.




Education and Experience:




  • Bachelor's degree in technical field or a related field.





  • 5 years of experience in manufacturing/production support.





  • Ability to use Microsoft Office packages effectively





  • Ability to be flexible both in relation to job-specification and schedules





  • Active DOD Secret clearance




Desired Education and Experience:




  • 10 or more years of experience with Navy acquisition and Submarine Programs.





  • Experience leading a project and interfacing with an end item customer.





  • Recent experience working in or supporting Team Submarine




Work Location: Washington Navy Yard, Washington, DC.

Travel: potential for travel (approx. 10%)
