Position Summary

The Engineering Associate position holds the responsibility for the safe, reliable, and economic round-the-clock operation of the generation, electric transmission, and distribution systems. Duties include Engineering responsibilities for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation activities of our power plants, transmission lines, substations, distribution system, gas systems, control centers, and others across disciplines. Responsibilities within engineering disciplines include, but are not limited to, the following: for mechanical engineering, the oversight of systems such as turbines, boilers, and pumps; for civil engineering, the design and maintenance of infrastructure including roads, bridges, and buildings; and for electrical engineering, the management of systems and components such as transmission lines, substations, and control centers. These engineering duties may include continuous monitoring and balancing of energy flow and responding to system disturbances, along with all generation, distribution, and transmission activities that provide electric and gas services to customers.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Execute assigned tasks efficiently under direct supervision, adhering to established procedures and industry standards.
  • Manage tasks with minimal financial oversight, ensuring cost-effective use of resources and budget adherence.
  • Assist in developing and implementing internal work processes to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement.
  • Gather and analyze information to support internal and external customer needs, ensuring accuracy and professionalism in all technical reports and documentation.
  • Participate in seminars, workshops, and continuing education opportunities to stay current with industry advancements and regulatory changes.
  • Manage project and process improvement initiatives, applying problem-solving skills and engineering principles to drive efficiency and quality in all projects.


Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Basic knowledge of fundamental engineering concepts, practices and procedures
Ability to work in a team environment, coordinating with other related areas to complete tasks and projects
Effective interpersonal skills and written communication skills to work with all levels of personnel within the organization
Ability to perform multiple work activities with a minimum of supervision and prioritize workload effectively
Ability to use personal initiative to recognize needs and research skills to solve problems when necessary
Ability to work call duty and occasional unscheduled work in the evenings, weekends, or holidays after experience level permits
Ability to travel occasionally, to off-site work, to seminars, manufacturing plant inspections, etc.
Ability to obtain Professional Engineer License in State of Texas
Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling
Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer In Training (EIT) designation from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers
  • Broad knowledge with mechanical, civil, and electrical systems, favorable to experience in power generation systems, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, power systems, control systems, and circuit design.
  • Basic to more advanced experience in engineering design, analysis, and project management across mechanical, civil, or electrical disciplines, with ability to develop, test, and implement engineering solutions for various systems and infrastructures.
  • Foundational to proficient skills using engineering software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation, ProjectWise, ESRI GIS, Arc FM Designer, ETAP and MATLAB.
  • Technical writing experience or college course work in technical writing,
  • Experience with SAP, Oracle, and Work Manager software, strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks effectively, and a commitment to professional development through participation in seminars, workshops, and continuing education opportunities.

Bachelors of Science degree in an engineering field from an ABET accredited four-year college or university
Required Certifications
Working Environment
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
Employee may potentially be exposed to hazardous chemicals, wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather, noisy and dusty environment.
Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. After hours work may be required.
Physical Demands
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking & standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
