Steptoe understands that, through federal judicial clerkships, attorneys gain critical writing, litigation, relationship-building, and hands-on experience that will serve them well in a law firm setting. Judicial clerks bring invaluable experience and perspective to our practice groups.

We are seeking candidates with a minimum of one year of experience as a federal judicial clerk to join our Investigations & White-Collar Defense practice or our Litigation practice in our Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York or Washington, DC office. Qualified applicants must be completing their current clerkship in 2025.

Steptoe's Litigation practice provides opportunities related to class action defense and unfair competition matters for manufacturers, retailers and financial services companies, as well as international disputes, including, but not limited to cross-border arbitration and related domestic litigation.

Steptoe's Investigations & White Collar Defense practice involves high-profile criminal litigation and investigations representing both individuals and entities, government and internal investigations, complex fraud-related civil litigation including commercial disputes, and securities class actions.

If you are interested in joining Steptoe as an associate upon completion of your current federal judicial clerkship, please submit your resume, law school transcript, cover letter, and a writing sample. Candidates must be licensed, or eligible to become licensed, to practice in the jurisdiction of the office location.

We offer competitive compensation and excellent benefits in a collegial working environment that provides training and mentorship. The anticipated salary range is $235,000 to $310,00. The actual base salary offered will be dependent upon the applicant's experience and qualifications, as well as other job-related factors, including but not limited to, relevant skills, education, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, geographic location.
