Essential Job Duties |
The primary purpose of the department is to support and maintain the IT infrastructure that supports Energy Services operations. This department collaborates with technical resources of the organization and acts as a liaison with other IT entities on campus.
This department evaluates the computer hardware and software needs of the organization and leads the procurement process. This department analyzes ENS' network and computer systems performance to develop plans to enhance security and improve the performance and efficiency of the organization.
Key Responsibilities of the Organization:
* Provides technical expertise and consultation to Energy Services managers, engineers, and staff.
* Serves as a subject matter expert for the design of system infrastructure to address recurring problems.
* Assists with the installation, modification, or enhancement of utility operating and controls systems.
* Coordinates IT plans with department leadership, University IT, and other campus stakeholders.
* Assisting with Energy Services IT resource planning and budget development.
Energy Services seeks a qualified vendor to provide a resource who will work with the IT Manager to document ENS' IT existing infrastructure in technical and layperson terms.
The secondary, optional goal is to conduct an IT infrastructure assessment to identify risk factors, areas for improvement, security vulnerabilities, and the effort needed to address deficiencies.
The information gathered will be used to develop an IT personnel training process and business process playbook.

Other Work/Responsibilities |
Document IT infrastructure, age, and replacement cycles.
Create detailed network diagrams and a comprehensive list of organizational software applications.
Track the age of key IT hardware assets, including replacement cycles and age-related risks.
Document software backup, recovery, and upgrades.
Record schedules, methods, and procedures for routine software backup, recovery protocols, and upgrades processes.
Document routine and periodic IT functions, including estimated effort required to complete the tasks.
Identify and describe routine, recurring IT tasks such as system checks, patch management and maintenance.
Identify and describe non-routine, and as-needed tasks.
Summarize departmental responsibilities.
Provide a high-level summary of the department's daily operations, along with estimated man hours required to maintain the organization's infrastructure.
Summarize the
SCADA systems and supporting SW that each of the major groups use.
Provide bi-weekly progress reports to
ENS management.

Minimum Experience/Education |
Sufficient understanding of IT systems and terminology to engage effectively with the IT team and gather the essential information for documentation.
Good understanding of standard IT Security protocols.
Good understanding of or have worked with hypervisors, Microsoft Hyper V, VMware ESXi.
Knowledge of networks. First, be familiar with the logical aspect, such as VLANs, complex subnetting, routing, etc. Second, understand the physical topology, such as
OSI layer1 & 2, MM/SM fiber,
SONET, wireless, ModBus over
TCP/IP, etc.
Knowledge of Microsoft
SQL Server.
Having configured and run backups. Specifics are not required, but in our current environment, we use
SQL dumps, imaging, Veeam, URBackup, and QNAP's Hyperdata Protector
Storage appliances (
CIFS/
SAMBA,
NFS, iSCSI protocols)
System monitoring and tuning
Knowledge of general hardware.
SATA vs.
SAS,
RAID,
RPS, RDIMM's, etc.
Linux familiarity
